Gateway computer - DVD disk drive opening31 Jul 2009 13:05 GMT2
I got a small Gateway desktop and it's hard to open the DVD drive.
You have to push really hard and slow on the button, or sometimes you
have to open the hinged part first.  Sometimes I've had to look for

I want to efficiently clone a number of SATA harddrives.  Instead of
purchasing an expensive dedicated drive cloning box, I wonder if there
are fast PCIe SATA disk controller cards which are able to directly
clone disks using appropriate software. Either ont-to-one or one-to-two

Can this be done on a 750GB and 500GB disk?

Might change the mobo to one with RIAD if it's better?

I have a  Toshiba MK3021GAS 30GB Laptop Hard Drive which has been in

boot manager that actually works?  Acronis Disk Director any good?24 Jul 2009 17:33 GMT12
I'm looking for a boot manager that allows me to have multiples OS
partitions on my C drive, but with the inactive partitions hidden, and
an easy way to select the OS to boot when you turn on your system. I'm
willing to spend some money to get a reliable and solid product.

External SATA Drive Not Seen on Reboot22 Jul 2009 12:30 GMT2
We have a Western Digital WD6400AACS "green" 640GB drive in an external SATA

the computer, the drive is seen by the Promise BIOS.    ...

something that works with USB drives too.

Why are HDD platters harder than the floppy/ZIP discs?19 Jul 2009 06:59 GMT46
I have a question just out of curiosity.
I notice with ZIP discs and floppies, the disc is a soft dark-brown
round film-like material that can easily be shredded -- with paper-
shredder -- to remove confidential information.
How full should a hard drive be?18 Jul 2009 20:17 GMT11
I got a new hard drive and have started moving data off some over full
(90%) hard drives.
What sort of amount of percentage fullness should I aim for?
I'm hoping there's a "knee" in the graph which shows fullness versus
