I've got an old Dell 5000e that I'm trying to squeeze another year of

40G 5400 rpm a year ago, which failed and was replace with a Toshiba
40G 5400 rpm drive a few months back, which then failed and was
Unable to format hard disk29 Nov 2005 18:55 GMT5
Somebody gave me their old laptop (IBM ThinkPad T22) which wasn't booting.
I tried reformatting the hard disk (after booting from a Windows XP Pro CD),
and although it appeared to be reformatting, at the end of the process
(which took almost 8 hours!) it came back saying it was ...

cpio question29 Nov 2005 01:45 GMT2
How does the -E filename work with cpio?  By example, I had an archive
with about 5500 files in it of which I only needed three hundred.  I am
thinking that the command:
cpio -iv -E filename < /dev/st0

While I'm on a vacation, I'd like to be able to store photos on a

However, I'll probably be buying a version that doesn't include a 2.5''
137GB barrier - multi O/S install problem28 Nov 2005 18:36 GMT11
I recently managed to scrape enough pennies to rebuild my lightning-bit

I created a small NTFS partition (8gb) for Win2k, and a few more
30gb FAT32 partitions to share with FreeBSD and Linux, which also
booting software from a usb flash drive28 Nov 2005 18:12 GMT2
I was wondering if there is any software out there that will allow me
to boot multiple things off of one usb flash drive.  Ex.  I am wanting

HP Netvista -  Not starting28 Nov 2005 17:16 GMT1
I have a HP Netvista model 6276 27G which suddenly did not start up.

not in the HIPRO model HP-M14554F3 power unit.  I also used another
Recovering a broken SNAP server?28 Nov 2005 17:15 GMT2
I have a SNAP Server which won't reboot properly.  Usually it will end
up in the Recovery Console.  This allows me to Upgrade/Repair my OS
(which I've tried but doesn't help) or blow away my data (which I'm
loath to do).

Samsung SP2014N and UDMA mode27 Nov 2005 16:13 GMT2
I just got one of the subject drives, and have been experimenting with a
utility that Samsung has called HUTIL.  Among the things that HUTIL can
do is to set the UDMA mode of the drive.
The drive originally came set as UDMA5, and it showed up that way both
