Maxtor External 120 Gig One Touch Failure30 Sep 2005 19:26 GMT7
I have a 120 gig external maxtor drive (USB connector) that has failed.
I get a generic I/O error when I try accessing data on the drive.  The
OS (XP) can see the drive but thats about it.  Chdks gives me a generic
I/O error.  Also, the OS seems to be busy trying to access the disk
reliability of Ultrium2/LTO- vs a DDS/5 - tapedrive30 Sep 2005 14:55 GMT14
I`am contemplaing about buying an LTO2- or a DDS5-tapedrive.
Which drive is more reliable?
(I do know that`s not fair to compare those drives because
of speed and capacity (and price), but at the moment I am

Hello I have installed qla2310 adapter in sunfire with solaris 8. After
the installation of driver for QLA2310 there I can see disks on the
switched storage EVA but there is still problem I cannot have activ
more than one path to the disk. I have installed

does anybody know the MTBF(mean time between failures)

After some kind of major crash, I replaced my 120gig Seagate SATA
drive with a Samsung 160gig SATA drive - Spinpoint P80.
The spinpoint seems to have a much louder seek noise than the
Seagate and I was under an impression the Samsungs were even

I adjusted the noise level of my spinrite drive using Samsung's
utility.  I'm not sure how much of a difference it has made in the
only real noise I heard, which is seek noise.

Is there an expert here that knows if the probleme with the Texas Instrument
PCI-1130 cardbus controller and win2000 and XP has been solved?
The probleme is that neither Win2000 nor XP supports 32bit cardbus cards to
be run on this cardbus controller, while it works fine in WinME.

I have an Asus A7pro and recently added a Silicon Image 3112 PCI-SATA card.
If I have my DVD writer (Plextor 712) connected when I boot the PC I just
get a "disk boot failure". All the OS etc. is on PATA drives, I am not
trying to boot from SATA.

I got a new external LG DVD writer with firewire and usb ports.  I use a
6-pin cable to connect to firewire port of my desktop pc.  It does not work
until I change to another 6-pin cable or a 6-pin to 4-pin (small connector)
cable.  I am at loss why the full 6-pin cable is not ...

I have an old 40GB Maxtor drive that can't be recognized by an old PC.
I mounted fine with an external USB case on a new PC. I then used Disk
Management tool on Windows 2000 to format the HD. It takes 2-3 hours
and it stucked at 71% for a while. The final total size of the HD

Did some reading.
Appears there is no reliable way, according to several sources other
than running b/mark tests of determining the UDMA operating level of a
drive, again according to two articles I read.
