What is happening (to me)? WESTERN DIGITAL PATA 160G 25 weeks old, sic,
2 weeks shy of end of warranty and it up and quits - all gone bye, bye.

Free Money, SERIOUSLY!!30 Apr 2005 15:46 GMT2
You will be paid $0.02 (2 cents) for every unique query performed from
the site, up to 40 per day. If you max your paid queries for a day you
will earn $0.80 (80 cents) for the day. You are going to use a search
engine anyway, right? So why not get paid to do it!
Hard disk size - quoted & actual30 Apr 2005 03:44 GMT30
This is something I've often wondered about but never tried to find out
- why is it that when you buy a 400GB drive, hook it up to your
motherboard, you only get say 370GB? This is before it's been formatted
or anything.
programs writing to the first 63 sectors30 Apr 2005 00:31 GMT1
I took a look at the first 63 sectors using dskprobe.
Except for sector 0, which contains the partition info,
the rest of the sectors contain zeroes apart from
sector 10, which contains 4 bytes (x'2896c417")
Tape vs HD: Balancing reliability, convenience and cost29 Apr 2005 19:44 GMT1
I'm seeking advice about the pros and cons of using hot-swappable hard
drives for large capacity data backups vs. using tapes.
The scenario is a small business with a snowballing amount of digital
assets. They need to store and backup about 1TB of data. Nightly backups
Number of drives per RAID controller channel (Ultra320)?29 Apr 2005 17:25 GMT1
Is there anything to say about the maximum number of drives you should
connect to a Ultra320 channel on a RAID controller (for a single RAID5 set)?
Modern Ultra320 10.000RPM drives have a throughput between 59 and
118MB/s (according to Seagate datasheets). Does this mean you can ...
Sector-by-sector images with Acronis TrueImage?29 Apr 2005 11:47 GMT6
Is the current version of Acronis (version 8 build something) able to
create real sector-by-sector images of HD partitions? In my case, this
would be important for creating images of encrypted partitions where
the HD imaging program cannot recognize the file system.

Need Help! Partition Move/Resize Failed Midstream - Files in Limboland!29 Apr 2005 06:36 GMT5
I'm running WinXP Pro with NTFS partitions.  I used PartitionMagic v8

and left everything in a weird state.  I can't access the partition via
Windows Explorer or a DOS command window.  But I *can* see stuff there

spb2port event ID 9 in W2K, Firewire, SBP-229 Apr 2005 05:44 GMT4
Recently I've been attempting to setup a backup system using Retrospect
and Firewire hard drives.  The initial (and recycle) backups take many
hours.  I've been experiencing frequent OS hangs where nothing
responds, not even alt-ctl-DELETE.
