Is a defective sector securely erased before it is remapped by the hdd OS? Or, to pinpoint it: can a hdd, which is "securely" erased by a erasing tool like blancco, kroll ontrack dataeraser etc. still contain sensitive data in the remapped sectors?

I was surprised when I see that Ghost 2003 from boot disks will not save to my external 40gb USB hard drive which came formatted as a single FAT32 partition. Apparently, the Guest.exe that Ghost uses will only see FAT partitions.

Hi. I'm running XP SP1 on a Dell Dimmension 8400. I purchased the PC with a Seagate 160GB SATA harddrive. That works fine. Recently, I purchased and installed a second (non boot) drive. That one is a Maxtor SATA 250GB drive.
