I have a LITEON 1633S (16x double layer) and it reads and writes to
any DVD just fine, but it will not read from, nor write to, ANY CD
(not even the ones that came with it).
I have tried it in all of: windows 2000 (sp4), windows 98se,  dos 7.1

Having just received an email from technical support at Ahead Nero, I think
I'll just give up trying to use their Nero Burning Rom to burn DVD's.  I've
been having issues for quite some time and have posted previously over the
last few months about this problem.

I'm sure this sounds really, really, REALLY dumb, but:
Why does it take such big huge machines to make pressed CDs, anyway? My
guess is because they need to make them in volume very quickly (mass
production). However, why couldn't one miniaturize the technology down

My Toshiba DVD-ROM SD M1212 with Win 98SE runs OEM software CDs and
OEM music CDs with no problem whatsoever, but will not run burner CDs.
I just bought a Knoppix CD which it will not run. The drive light
blinks about 50 times and then stays on.

I've used Windows Media Player and Clone CD in attempts to copy music
CDs. Each time I get a large loss in audio and quite a bit of noise.
What could the problem be?

I have Nero 6.0.0.16 and the update 6.6.1.4.
Do I have to install  6.0.0.16 FIRST and then
