Is DVD+R better than DVD-R and if not why not?
 I'm asking because there are certain economic advantages to go with
the +R but I don't have a clear picture of the pros and cons.

I have an HP Pavillion dv1000 laptop with a TS-L532M CD/DVDW drive that
isn't working quite right.   When I am listening to an MP3 that is
playing from a CD there is a slight pause each time the drive light
comes on.  DVD's do not play smoothly either.

I have been successfully using Nero 5.5 for some time now, to edit cd
copies of my old albums using the drag and drop facility.
Recently the transferred files will not play in the edit screen, so I
can't use the osciloscope view to take clicks out etc. On pressing play

I start to wonder if my system is maybe too damn slow for DVD burn at 16 x
speed... It's Athlon XP 2400+, running a bit overclocked at 140 MHZ fsb,
(used to be) pretty good SOYO mobo K7V Dragon+, 512 M of DDR RAM. DMA is

Everything was working fine...then i reinstalled OS. Now, using same version
of NERO and same version of Shrink, once the movie has been saved to HD and
NERO attempts to burn the blank DVD ejects and message pops up, "searching
computer for blank disk" or something like that. Tried ...

of features that a particular Compact Disk has but not the other CD.
i.e. Unique attribute of CD that can be read by a software program.

I got a store bought CD and wrote down the track times and order and made
blank WAV files with those exact times and put them on a CD-RW in the same
order... in order to see if the CDDB database would see the track
information based on number of tracks, duration of each track and ...

I use Win2000 with an external CD/DVD-Rom Device. Its a Sony DRU-510A
which is inserted in a Mapower H51xx case (USB and FireWire).
It made some problems before, to be recognized (better with USB than
FireWire). But it worked than and again, though.

In order to copy--not burn--mp3 or wav files from CDRs to an external
hard drive, do you have to do anything besides hit the "Copy" command
in Windows (XP) and target the external hard drive as the "Selected

burned CD's properly?
Matshita SR-8583 DVD-ROM (in old Compaq 5670) will read pressed CD's
(including DVD) but frequently refuses to read burned CD's.

I may be slow but I can't figure this out.  I want to burn a downloaded
audiobook thats to large to fit on one cd.  All the software that I
have tried to use NERO, Imix, etc. tells me that my file is to large
