Is it possible to substitute a Desktop CD-ROM drive (HP Pavilion, ~3 GB) for my not-working laptop CD_ROM drive (slimline; Compaq Armada; ~1998)?

Weve all seen the warnings on the faster discs that they may cause damage to older slower drives. Can anyone explain the reasons why this is so or point me to any web pages with tech info?

Hello to everyone at alt.comp.periphs.cdr! I have a question about buying an external dvd burner using USB 2.0. Our computer has USB 1.0, does that mean I cannot use this device? I am worried if I buy this I will not be able to use it on USB 1.0

I need to contact Utmost Technology for customer service, and there's no manual and no number or address on the box. (It's a CD ROM R/W burner). They don't seem to have an internet site either. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me a contact number

Has anyone checked out the new burners that will burn a label on your cds. it is done by laser etching.newegg has a benq brand on sell for $84.00 after rebate maybe it would be cheaper to burn the label instead of using a printer.I

I wish the name of this group could be changed to ...cdr/dvdr, but I'll chance this possibly off topic post. Should internal DVD readers and writers be connected via 40 or 80 wire cables, and will it make a difference in performance/reliability?
