OT: DVD Burning software reports 8X writing speed for a 16X Rewriter31 Mar 2005 23:17 GMT4
My new NEC 3520a 16X DVD ReWriter reports only a maximum 8X writing
speed when running a "drive capabilities" check under Nero
6.2, Alcohol 1.9.2, and the latest version of DVD Identifer, but I
don't have any rated for 16X media to test with.  My TDK 4X DVD+R

After making a "data disc", I would like to make another 'data disc" using
the same file-directory selections that I used the first time. In other words,
I want to make backups on a regular basis of just the specific files and
directories specified the first time (with minor ...
Best audio format?  Opinions?31 Mar 2005 08:39 GMT1
I'm just curious, what is the best audio format?  I'm ready to rip my
entire CD collection to MP3, WMA, MP3 Pro, or MP4 (or "other")?  Which
yields the best audio quality vs. compression?  Which regardless of
compression?

Creator 5 under Windows XP.  When I create a music CD using the copy
function, the created CD has a slight but irritating volume drop-off
just a split second into the first track - the song starts fine, but at

Where should I get Taiyo Yuden CDRs are these TY's at Amazon good?29 Mar 2005 18:51 GMT4
They are $34/100 and there is no speed rating. I'm wondering if they could be
old stock that's been sitting there for years. Since there's no speed rating,
they could be very old. What does "80m" mean? I've never seen that before.
The next best price I see for TY's on that site is ...
Can you copy a whole audio CD to HDD in native format, no "ripping"?, & many other Q's28 Mar 2005 22:59 GMT4
I may not be understanding this right, but IIRC ripping degrades sound
quality, then re-burning to CD more so (depending on compression & codec).
Is there any way to burn the exact digital image of what was on the 1st CD
to a 2nd?  How bout to the HDD and be able to play it from ...

variable exrtaction speed again28 Mar 2005 04:49 GMT1
Just to follow up on my previous post regarding the variable extraction
speed I am getting on my ASUS CRW-5232AS.  The suggested solution was
that I install the Nero APSI layer.  I have done that and there is no
apparent difference with the behaviour ...

Burn speed annoyance27 Mar 2005 05:23 GMT2
I have a Pioneer DVR-109 installed, I'm using NERO 6 suite (6.3.1.25)
Burning of CDRs & CDRWs is fine, no problems but whenever I go to burn a
DVD and select my burn speed, irrespective of which speed media I'm using,
Nero always chooses a burn speed the next one up in the list of ...
Can a virus write itself onto a CDR?26 Mar 2005 17:20 GMT15
I'm wondering if a virus could somehow be on a CDR without it having been
copied to the disc like any other file using software like Nero. I want to
know if I can be sure there are no viruses on my CDRs.
Thank you.
