it appears Roxio's DirectCD has beef with ~!@#$%^&*()-+|
any files which include those characters burn fine but when I close
to read on all cd-roms, it tells me to change ex: + or - to _
Nero did not have that problem.

I've a Plex and TDK that burn cdr's in the 10-12x range. Very reliably
on my diminishing pile of discs made for burning at those speeds. Can't
find them any more so I'm wondering if there are high speed discs I
should avoid or prefer for using with these burners? I understand all ...

Looking at getting a NEC -3500A or Pioneer 108 16X DVDR.  Want to use with
an external case but have heard that a USB 2.0 won't cut it for 16X burning.
Will Firewire work ?   I currently have both in my computer but didn't want
to spend the extra $$ for a Firewire case if I don't ...

I have tried to burn several cd-r's lately and I am getting a bunch of
coasters.  I bought some cheap media from wal-mart and thought they were the
problem so i took them back and got name brand stuff and still no go.  when

It was USB. It didn't work well on my system, and I'd like to build it

I have a LiteOn Buslink USB external CDRW that works fine in every
capacity EXCEPT: it won't play audio.
That's not to say audio doesn't work, it will rip fine and play
games fine...but even if I insert an mp3 disk, it will convert all

using cd-rw's I can burn archive or read only files using Roxio
DirectCD, but not to cd-r's.
using cdr's, I either have to change all the files' attributes or
zip all files.

The CDR RW (Sony CRX220A1) was working fine and I could play any audio
CD in the CD RW. This computer has Vibra 128 (sound card stuff??) and
creative play center along with B's recorder. I used B's recorder to
rip one CD into my harddrive (from CD ROM) so that I can use Winamp to
