DVD writers for copying protected CDs ... is there a drive which can do it all?07 Nov 2003 23:44 GMT1
I am searching the market since some time for an "all-purpose"-DVD writer,
which beside copying and writing DVDs perfectly
(DVD-RAM,  DVD-R, DVD-RW,  DVD+R,  DVD+RW)
is also confirmed to perform the following four CD-writing features:
Question about pre-emphasis flag07 Nov 2003 22:33 GMT1
I have ripped an audio cassette into a bunch of WAV files. When I am ready
to burn a CD, CD Architect has an Emph check box for each track which allows
me to add a pre-emphasis flag to the Q subcode, although CD Architect can
not impart the pre-emphasis boost on a track; it can only ...

I installed a Samsung SM-352B combo drive on my Dell
XPS-R450, and it reads CDs fine.  I haven't installed any
other software, but I assume it writes CDs OK, too.  But...

Optorite DVD+-RW Drive07 Nov 2003 00:51 GMT17
I "upgraded" from a Pioneer DVD-RW drive to an Optorite dual format
drive.  At least, I thought I did.
None of the DVD's I burn using Nero work in my Apex AD-1200 DVD player.
I am using the same DVD-R media that I used with the Pioneer drive and

SCSI vs ATAPI06 Nov 2003 23:25 GMT14
My scsi controller (among other components) developed an erratic behaviour, so I went out and bought a
new pc with a 52x burner. The big surprise is that the 52x atapi drive is as fast as my scsi 8x recorder! If
I set speed at 52x, I get occasional write errors during ...

Warning: PNY CDR warranty no longer granted06 Nov 2003 16:37 GMT9
I called PNY today in a hope to get a few replacement CD-Rs for the
bad ones. These discs failed to finish burning at specified speed.
The answer from PNY is: PNY no longer produces CD-Rs and can do
nothing with bad discs. Quoted from the customer service: "What do you
SW/HW for VHS -> DVD06 Nov 2003 14:35 GMT4
I've got an extensive collection of VHS movies. I'd like to copy
some of them to DVD. I've got an ATI AIW Radeon Pro and new
SONY DRU510A (and a macrovision eliminator). Unfortunately, my
computer is just a dual processor 733 PIII running XP pro or RH 7.3.
Optorite DD0203 DVD+RW Experience06 Nov 2003 13:23 GMT12
I cannot get my Optorite DD0203 to work with DVD+RW media.  I am using
Memorex and HP media as recommended by Optorite.  I am on my secomd drive
after RMA'ing the 1st.  DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RW works ok so far, just
DVD+RW.  I upgraded both firmware to 2.16.
