| Claimed devices - how do you find out who claimed it? | 28 Apr 2005 23:14 GMT | 4 |
I have my routines now and can show the SCSI bus (HA) and devices, and some of the devices come back as claimed. No problem, but how can I work out the "name" for the claimed device, e.g. Tape0 etc.? Tia

| Scsi command data transfer - which direction ? | 27 Apr 2005 07:47 GMT | 4 |
I write scsi command functions separately then use whatever transport is available. The ASPI & SPTI scsi transports require knowing the data transfer direction of the scsi command being sent.

| U2W vs. SE for tape drive? | 25 Apr 2005 15:22 GMT | 9 |
The external DDS-4 autoloader I bought recently is a LVD/SE device. I have a U2W cable from the drive to the computer, but the cable from the onboard Adaptec U2W connector (the mobo is an Asus P2B-LS) to the case-mounted connector probably isn't up to U2W spec. (it's flat ribbon

| SCSI 3 / SCSI 2 | 23 Apr 2005 11:00 GMT | 5 |
I'm a newbie about SCSI controllers and hard drives but I haven't found any answer in the newsgroups and over the net. I've got a SCSI-3 hard drive with a 68pin connector and a controller card with a 50pin connector, so I think that it is a SCSI-2 controller card.

| Disks with 256-byte sectors | 23 Apr 2005 01:38 GMT | 3 |
I'm trying to read data off two HDs removed from a Perkin-Elmer OS/32 system. I'm using an Adaptec 2940AU card, and an inexpensive program called DiskSpy from www.miray.de. This setup works fine when I use it to examine an old Macintosh disk, a PC-formatted JAZ cartridge, or a

| Is this vendor blowing smoke? | 22 Apr 2005 23:34 GMT | 11 |
We purchased a disk/tape backup appliance from a vendor that shall remain nameless. The appliance is a linux box with a SATA RAID array and a SCSI LTO-2 tape drive. When we installed it we found that we could backup our unix systems to the disk array but could not write

| HVD internal cables | 20 Apr 2005 10:29 GMT | 1 |
I'm upgrading some old tape libraries from Ultra SCSI Narrow (50 pin) to Ultra SCSI Wide (68 pin). Both are HVD. Obviously, I need to replace all of the cabling. If I use the proper HVD terminator, can I use a LVD "rated" internal cable ?

| Performance of RAID0 abismal compared to SATA RAID??? | 15 Apr 2005 14:00 GMT | 3 |
I just got a Dell PERC4 (rebranded LSI 320-1) RAID adapter, and I'm somewhat surprised of the performance of a simple RAID 0 with 3x73gb 15k.3 seagate drives. Under complete RAID 0, I can get a Winbench 99 transfer rate of about
