Printers dependent on IE07 Feb 2006 23:00 GMT12
I'm currently using Windows 98se but plan on migrating to Linux in the
near future.  However I've noticed that many printers are dependent on
Internet Explorer 5+ to work.  W98se ships with IE 5.0 which is often
too old.
Canon Pixma ink cartridges?07 Feb 2006 22:25 GMT21
I'm on the verge of deciding to change my Lexmark Z517 printer for a
Canon, since I'm a student and print quite lots of stuff (and the
Lexmark ink is generally fairly expensive and nearly
un-refillable/third party ink non-existent).  So, I saw many dirt-cheap

plastic card printer07 Feb 2006 09:28 GMT4
Has anyone printed plastic cards (like loyalty cards) with a photo of
the customer on it? Each card has a different picture on it but has
other graphic parts the same.
I have seen two manufacturers: Fargo and Zebra. I cannot find the unit
Removing cover : Epson Colour Stylus 60007 Feb 2006 04:15 GMT4
The controler ribbon cable on my Epson Stylus 600 had parted company
from the print head.  To replace/refix it I need to remove the top
cover.  Which seems to require me to remove the print head assembly.
Help please:  1.  Can I remove the top cover without removing the

Just last Friday I placed and order for a printer memory upgrade from

Canon S900-clogged printhead07 Feb 2006 01:05 GMT7
While printing pictures today, there was a dark band running across the

QMS 2300 "hard drive kit" = a regular IDE HD?07 Feb 2006 00:50 GMT2
Anyone knows if the "hard drive kit" sold by QMS / KonicaMinolta for
their 2350 printer series includes any electronics/controller board?.
Or is it simply a regular IDE hard disk in some mounting bracket?.
If so (if it's just a IDE hard disk), is the connector proprietary?
canon pixma 420006 Feb 2006 18:02 GMT10
After hearing many good reports, I have purchased but not yet received  a
Canon Pixma 4200.  I have just realised however that there is something I
have not considered.  Do I need to print on  special Canon paper to take
advantage of the ChromaLife100 inks or can I print on any ...

Brand New Epson R245 prints photos in green??06 Feb 2006 16:33 GMT21
I have a 2-week-old Epson R245 which worked fine for a couple of weeks. I
went to print a couple of photos tonight and they come out a sickly green
colour. All the reservoirs are around half full and they are original Epson
cartridges. The problem affects any photo. B&W word docs ...
New York Times refilled cartridge article06 Feb 2006 15:33 GMT12
There is an article on the front page of the business section of today's New
York Times (02/04/06) regarading purchase of refilled cartridges.  They
touch very briefly on home refilling as well.  This appears to be a growing
market.

This must be something someone's done before:
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a printer continue to print in
black if the colour cartridge is empty?
I have an oldish Epson Stylus Colour 580 that I really don't want to print
