Scan -> PDF, some quick questions31 Jul 2003 15:49 GMT3
I have an HP 7450c scanner and I've been scanning large documents to
PDF format using "Black/White Bitmap" format.  The resulting document
is nearly identical in size and quality whether I scan using 300 dpi
or 600 dpi.
scanning and memory usage question31 Jul 2003 15:41 GMT2
I have a canon Lide 20.  If I set it to scan on 1200 dpi resolution in colour
using the full platen or even most of it, the Task Manager in Win2000 shows a
memory usage in excess of 800MB!
Is this normal for this resolution?

How do I hook a flat bed scanner into my computer USB port?  Reason I need
to do this is because my printers are on my parallel ports, and the scanner

I want to buy a cheap second scanner for my wife to use with her laptop. I'm
leaning towards the Canon lide50 scanner which is under $100 and includes
photoshop elements 2.0. It happens to be powered through the usb cable (no
AC adapter) and I wanted to make sure it will work off a ...
OCR -shareware30 Jul 2003 23:21 GMT1
I am looking for OCR software to replace the unusable OCR included with
my new EPSON 1260 PHOTO scanner. Prefer shareware.
Did not expect to pay $80 for an EPSON  scanner that included OCR and
then need to spend $100 for a usable after market OCR software.

Vuescan and noise reduction for RAW files30 Jul 2003 13:24 GMT3
Now that Vuescan is handling RAW camera images, is there a way to use it to
reduce noise in the image? I'm hoping for some method where I could
reference a dark frame and have Vuescan subtract out the pixel noise. There
are programs like NeatImage that do this function, but Vuescan ...

Hi.  I just bought a Minolta Scan Elite  f-2900 in brand new condition

The manual says to turn on the scanner prior to turning on the the
Microtek Scanmaker 5900 & B&W Transparents30 Jul 2003 03:40 GMT9
I just bought a Microtek 5900 scanner and scanned a few color prints. The

However, I am having trouble making the settings for scanning b&w transparents,
line art, halftones, etc.  I am not finding any detailed documentation on the

fully utilize 5400's capabilities. If not then I may have to buy Elite

Vuescan Almost There29 Jul 2003 21:41 GMT7
Like Marco, I've fought w/Epson 2450 Twain for 35mm negs & slides, and
lost the battle.
So today, I've finally broken thru the fog w/the Vuescan trial version
& managed to get the amazing scans everyone raves about.
Canonical polynomial representation29 Jul 2003 20:54 GMT4
