I have previously had a couple of AMD PC's which I toyed with, an Opteron144
(ran at 2.6GHz) and an FX55 (which just wouldn't run  above 2.6GHz), and I
decided to try an Intel based system.  I bought an Asus Striker Extreme mobo
and Q6600 (been assured it ran at 3.5GHz on air in ...

water cooling??23 Dec 2008 00:30 GMT7
I bought a RoG Striker Extreme and a pre-owned Q6600.  The previous owner
assured me he had run it on air-cooling at 3.5GHz on a P5K mobo.  Thinking
that this assured me of a good overclock I built the system with an AC
Freezer7 Pro but it wont overclock past 2.7GHz easy and 2 ...
[UK] What value this used 2800+ Sepron PC I saw?21 Dec 2008 01:35 GMT14
I saw a used Sempron 2800+ PC for sale today.  I'm not keen on ebay
and I couldn't get a price match.
What do you reckon is the going price for this PC which a dealer
bought from a liquidation sale and is selling on.
New Project_i7 920 Nehalem build20 Dec 2008 04:16 GMT11
Got everything except the motherboard yesterday. I will be reusing my 2 EVGA
Superclocked 8800 GTX cards in SLI. I don't think that will be a bottleneck
yet. OS will be Vista Ultimate 64bit.

AMD Duron 1800 to Core2 E4550   ???19 Dec 2008 19:06 GMT12
Can you specialists giveme some advice please. I'm in the UK.
Is the advice I've been given any good?  Suggested I go from my old
slow system to a new system based on Intel.  Proposed system seems
overkill.  Opinions please.

Is this a myth re Windows disable after overclocking?15 Dec 2008 13:21 GMT13
A friend has said that when installing XP prof and SP3 I should not have
activated Windows until after I had overclocked my Intel 8400. He claimed
that Microsoft  would detect this (I assume during WGA and updates)  and
disable Windows such that my computer will not boot.

Non-deterministic CPU's.11 Dec 2008 19:14 GMT7
The first rule of digital electronics is they should be predictable -
ie. when the same data is fed into a circuit twice, the output should
be the same every time.
I'm trying to do a thought experiment to see what could happen if this
Separating HS&F from CPU ...11 Dec 2008 18:33 GMT1
What might be the slickest/easiest way to separate a heatsink from a CPU?
the last time I tried to pull up on one, the proc came out of the socket and
the 'arm/lever' was still in the locked positions.  Luckily none of the pins
were bent or scrapped to much that it would not work ...
Overclocking Q660011 Dec 2008 01:21 GMT5
I've had this processor for a while now, its the one with G0 stepping so
overclockable.  It used to run it fine at v1.40 core voltage at 3.2ghz by
having a 400 fsb and 8 multiplyer, it passed Prime 95 for 2 hours but I
noticed the PSU got very hot, so I decided to just run it at ...
