| PC shuts down | 13 Dec 2007 02:15 GMT | 6 |
Any thoughts.. My PC shuts down after long periods of gaming. And I'm not talking Call of Duty 4 here. Playing an ooold game (Tiberian Sun - 1998) at 1680x1050 after about 2 hours... the system just shuts down (instantaneously).

Ok, so I've started looking for a processor on eBay. I'm going for a E6600 and now my question is this. What steppoing or other speccs should I be looking for (gonna try to run it at 3GHz) to get the best possible processor model?

| CPU for gaming rig, duo or quad? | 07 Dec 2007 04:00 GMT | 6 |
Looking at trying to build a new machine basically only for gaming (FPS and MMOs), is there any advantage in this scenario to go quad over duo? At first my plans was for a E44/4500, but it seems I can get a fairly cheap E6600 from eBay which makes me think that might be a better ...

| DDR2 8500 on overclocked 6400bus? | 07 Dec 2007 00:47 GMT | 9 |
Just got a GA-P35C-DS3R with a Q6600 and some DDR2 8500 because the box said it was supporting 1333MHz FSB and 1066MHz memory... Well, not quite! It does support DDR3 8500 but only DDR2 up to 6400. So, should I return my DDR2 8500 5-5-5-15 and get a set of DDR2 6400

| Any application that warns of high temperature? | 06 Dec 2007 13:03 GMT | 11 |
I am literally going nuts over this. I desperately need an application that will actually WARN me when my GPU temp goes over 68c or something similar. So many temperature reading applications out there, but none of them freaking warn me!

| reality check | 06 Dec 2007 12:25 GMT | 7 |
The QX6700 is sometimes on ebay for around 3 smackers. While that seems a pretty good discount and with all of the usual caveats about not knowing what the chip's been through or if it's even going to show up, a part of me, the cheap bastard, says that it's a waste of money

| Centech non contact infrared digital thermometer | 06 Dec 2007 12:16 GMT | 3 |
Considering the difficulty in finding a system health monitor utility that works well with my EVGA 680i SLI motherboard, my Centech non contact infrared digital thermometer is the best workaround I have found. And at only $7 US, quite a bargain.

I've built a machine for a mate. Asus P5K-Premium/Q6600. He's going to bring it around tomorrow night for me to overclock it for him. When I had it here I tried to stress all four cores with the aplets I already have, (Orthos, Prime(5..) and didn't do too well. Is there a tool ...

I'm going 64 bit and would like to OC a little er maybe alot and maybe get a larger CPU when they come down (if they ever do) I'd like the low voltage version first so I can have time to save up for a 500w PSU later, I've looked at the Asus boards with the long pipe copper heat ...
