I'm a little confused about laptop speeds.... Generally, desktop processor speeds are easy to understand, a 3Ghz P4 processor, is faster than a 2.4Ghz processor....etc, etc. But there are so many laptop processors, that it's difficult to equate them

I have always been impressed by the quietness of HP machines. The dc7100 Ultra slim desktop does not have a power supply fan I believe. Is this true and are these machines truly quiet? Is the USDT quieter than the SFF?

It's been a while since I checked the following out, as I have built my own PC systems for many years.... Which of the major PC manufacturers, such as HP-Compaq, Dell, IBM use proprietary mainboards, PSUs and other components in their desktop systems?

I wonder if there are tools to control a HP autoloader 418 from the shell. I can write my data to the drive with tar or whatever, but having an autoloader but changing tapes manually can't be the intended way of operation. :)

Ever since I bought this laptop I've noticed that at times it just seems to stop. The only way I know this is going on is when I'm typing and suddenly no characters are appearing. This freeze lasts for about a second. When I'm really typing away a few of the characters I typed

Is there a log where I can see a server's power cycles? I wouls like to be able to see when was the machine powered off and when was is powered on. I need to distinguish powere shutdown from reboots where the power was'nt shutdown.
