My HP OmniBook XE3 regularly decides to slow down to half speed (from

I have a HP9000 machine where I put a IBM 73GB disk in. Everything seems to
work fine, I can create a volume group with some logical volumes. I can
mount the lvol's on the system, can read etc. BUT when I put a file onto
