About power supplies' specifications31 May 2008 19:52 GMT2
Are they designed to work at rooms without air-conditioning?
Especially those so-called server-class supplies.
Is there a difference between cold and hot climate conditions?
Or should I just look for military grade stuff? :)

Why are they so hot? Would it affect its efficiency?
I am using a TruePower II 550EPS12V.

need rec for high gain directional wi-fi antenna30 May 2008 14:41 GMT2
Can anyone recommend a wifi antenna, and pci card, to extend a router's
range?  Ideally the antenna would have a lead of about 3 feet.  The PC is
buried in an interior corner in a basement.
Thanks,
AGP 8x in a 4x mobo30 May 2008 12:17 GMT4
Some cards specify both 4x and 8x and most only specify 8x.
Can I use any 8x video card in a 4x mobo slot? I just want it to work,
don't care if it's half speed. In the future I'll probably use it in an
8x board, just can't see buying a 4x only card at this point.

I'll probably be buying a new drive or two soon and wanted to get your
opinion about which type of drive - SATA, eSATA or USB - you think will
still be in use on both existing and new systems over the next five
years or so.

I have a Compaq SR2027X whose mobo seems to me most like the Asus M2NPV-MX
which HP calls "Motherboard manufacturer's name: ASUS A8M2N-LA - HP/Compaq
name: Naos-GL6".  It is running 2G DDR2 ram with a NVidia GeForce 6150 LE
chipset which dedicates 256meg ram to the video, cpu AMD ...

Go ahead and flame me for posting off-topic, I'm not building a pc
(yet) but rather just trying to add more USB connectors to my MSI 6398
Ultra845 PentiumP4 board. It came with 4 USB2 connectors on the back
of the pc (all now in use), and there is an empty JUSB2 connector on

Raid 0 - Recovering to single HDD29 May 2008 08:02 GMT3
This may be a banal question but I am a newbie with no experience of raid
