When I initially installed my processor, I used the Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. Now the CPU is exposed until the new motherboard arrives. Do I need to clean off the compound from the CPU heatspreader before installing the CPU into the next motherboard?

Can someone explain the diffrence between CPU's I can't afford to upgrade to DDR2 at the moment so I wanted to do it in stages. The A8V- VM supports Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core . so does the AM2. The problem is when I look at the Asus site for CPU

Today it occured to me the new AN832-SLI motherboard might be showing the same symptoms as the previous same kind of motherboard that died. Today I kept my computer running without the internet connected and it ran just fine.
