What determines motherboard's ultimate I/O performance?19 Jun 2007 11:31 GMT3
External things being equal, is the I/O performance of a motherboard
mostly determined by the chipset, or can the maker impact performance
(intentionally or otherwise) through other circuitry?
If it's entirely or primarily the chipset, which of Intel's current
For a MAG LCD Monitor, fix it or throw it away, that is the question.19 Jun 2007 07:34 GMT2
I have a MAG 19 inch LCD monitor, LT916S bought half a year ago.
It worked fine but now there is a problem with it.
After working for 10 to 20 minutes, it goes black. If you turn it off and
then on agin, it will light up for about 2 seconds and then back to black.

I have an installation currently using a 10K Raptor, which is going

option for os and program files only.

Is this worth building?17 Jun 2007 06:16 GMT6
I've got a question. I bought these components a couple of years ago, I
think, I just recently wondered if I should scrap them and get something
else. (mobo and CPU).
The mobo is K7n2 Delta 2 Plantinum MSI and the CPU is, I think, 3200 AMD,
Installing 2nd SATA hard drive16 Jun 2007 22:07 GMT5
How do you set jumpers to put a 2nd SATA drive into a system?  It has
been a while, last time I did this was with EIDE drives with a Master /
Slave settings.  Do you even have to move the jumpers?  For reference,
the 2nd drive is a WD 1600 JD with an 8-pin jumper block.

Enable SMART on 741GX16 Jun 2007 00:59 GMT2
I just bought an SiS 741GX-MN motherboard locally.  It's marketed as
"generic", no brand!  Shouldn't have done this.  I think CelSky makes it.
The boot-up says "S.M.A.R.T capable but disabled".  I would like to turn
SMART on, but there is NO ENTRY in the BIOS setup for SMART.
Respnse time and Contrast ratio questions15 Jun 2007 23:45 GMT6
I have recently come across some LG monitors that have 3000:1 contrast
ratio with a response time of 2ms.  My planar PL190M( 3.5 years old) is
500:1 with 25ms.  My question is this...
What affect does the contrast ratio and response time have on performance?
