| How to make external HD bootable? | 30 Jul 2009 18:39 GMT | 2 |
Is there a trick I don't know? I bought a new GFORCE MEGADISK FANTOM 1TB external SATA hard drive and have it connected as USB. I have formatted it, and have tested it to store files and folders on it, and it works fine.

Hi Experts, I have a DSL modem with a variable IP# and it worked great for over a year. Then it would not connect to the 'net at all. I moved the Kingston network card through several slots and finally I found one that worked.

| Muliple port SATA controller to clone drives.. | 30 Jul 2009 03:36 GMT | 2 |
I want to efficiently clone a number of SATA harddrives. Instead of purchasing an expensive dedicated drive cloning box, I wonder if there are fast PCIe SATA disk controller cards which are able to directly clone disks using appropriate software. Either ont-to-one or one-to-two

I've been trying to diagnose a custom-built system that I think is based upon an Intel D915GUX motherboard. Unfortunately, I can't get it on the bench and break it down, but thought I might hit you with the symptoms to see if anything sounds familiar:

| Better hard drive for laptop? | 28 Jul 2009 21:14 GMT | 36 |
I was looking at Hitachi drives (like what came in my ThinkPad). A 120GB drive at 5400 rpm costs twice as much ($120 - $63) as a 120GB with virtually the exact same specs except in 4200 rpm. I see a better throughput when used internally as opposed to externally. Is that what

| Network - Hardware or firmware or ... | 27 Jul 2009 14:27 GMT | 4 |
If this is the wrong place for this tell me where to go for the answer and I'll go quietly. SOMETHING set up some kind of _ethernet_ thing in Network Connections called (in part) WAN miniport. It appeared after I ran Comcast's Decktop Doctor.

| Seeking USB sound card recommendation | 24 Jul 2009 06:02 GMT | 5 |
I built myself a new computer. Unfortunately the sound card on the motherboard turned out to be not very good. To experiment with a USB soundcard, I got Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1. It was around 60 bucks at Fry's.

Am running XP Pro/SP2. I have a SATA HDD attached via USB. I made a copy of about 20 GB of data from an internal HDD to the USB HDD. I wanted a second copy of the data and I wanted that second copy to be stored on my USB HDD. IYSWIM. So I used XP to make a copy:
