Help with hard drives in USB enclosures with Vista23 Jul 2008 20:50 GMT5
I have four hard drives (3  old, one new); the three old ones, all
formatted NTFS, had worked OK in my previous XP system. The XP box went
down in flames and, as time was critical, I had to replace it with an

I have a front panel for a PC that has broken.  It's normally secured to
the metal chassis by driving screws from within the chassis into 3/4"
plastic posts that attach to the very front face of the front panel.
Two of those posts have been sheared off at their base.
What are Seagate platters made of?22 Jul 2008 06:14 GMT25
Just curious.
I had a Seagate Barracuda 300GB Ver. 7200.8 drive die on me.  No
receipt so I took it apart.  The platters (three of them) are made of
a fairly soft but rigid metal.  Anyone out there know what they're

Question re. UPS - APC 65017 Jul 2008 19:56 GMT7
I've got a used APC 650 UPS. I got it cheap, with 2 dead batts.
I'd like to use this to back up simple home PC set-up, and am wondering if
there is a way to get the APC 650 to work with just 1 batt, so it will cost
$20 versus $40, to get it online.

A friend gave my sister a used hard-drive without the power supply.

A call to them resulted in their saying their 'legal department' would
