high quality web cam under Linux29 Feb 2008 14:04 GMT1
What I need to find is a web cam that produces "studio quality" feed
(60 fps, at least 640x480, 24-bit pixels) that would work well under
Linux (OpenSuSe is our main preference). Ideally, that would be a USB-
based camera. If it can have positional control via software - even
Monitor Refresh Rate29 Feb 2008 06:16 GMT6
I have a cheapo widescreen, 19" monitor.  I'm using it on a Linux system.
The two options I have for refresh are 1440x900@60hz  and 75hz.  I'm
using the analog cable @ 60hz.
What advantage, if any, would I have by running at 75hz ??

I just bought two NetGear GA311 GigaBit PCI adapters and a NetGear
GS605 GigaBit Ethernet Switch.  I have two computers with the PCI
cards in them connected through my home network into the GS605.  Much
of my network is wired into the walls.  I'm pretty sure I am not

Dell Dimension 2300 Keeps Restarting28 Feb 2008 17:42 GMT5
I just brought home a used Dell Dimension 2300 and added RAM, a spare
physical drive, a PCI video card, and a DVD burner.  I used my Windows
XP installer to load Windows after nuking the drive.  The machine has
been working fine for the most part, until this last week when it
Dell Desktops at eBay28 Feb 2008 16:41 GMT7
Why is it that 3/4 of all of the desktops up at eBay are Dells?
Advice on CPU (amd or intel, dual or quad core?)28 Feb 2008 08:08 GMT5
I am about to choose a new desktop computer (budget: £ 550 - £ 600
max, excluding monitor) and would like some advice on the processor:
1)    AMD or Intel? I struggle to understand to what extent there are
different schools of thought, and to what extent there are constant
problem with new cd/dvd burner28 Feb 2008 01:15 GMT5
I recently installed a new cd/dvd burner. Everything seemed fine. I
didn't realize until I gave a CD to somebody else that it did not
finalize the CD.
When burning CDs, I have always used windows explorer to drag the
Moving old hard drive to a new computer27 Feb 2008 23:44 GMT4
Hey all you experts
I really need a word of advice here... I am currently trying to
migrate a hard drive from an old computer to a freshly built one.
There are some complications though that I would like some opinions

Upgrade to processor not supported by BIOS ?27 Feb 2008 16:06 GMT3
I want to replace my current microprocessor with a faster one which
might not be supported by the BIOS of my motherboard. I am wondering if
it can work, in the sense that even though the BIOS might not print a
nice message saying "I recognize this processor as a XYZ", the system
New Questions About My New SATA DVD Birner27 Feb 2008 16:00 GMT7
As I indicated in my earlier posts, I mistakenly bought a SATA DVD
burner drive instead of a PATA drive.  Anyway, I had to buy some
cables to hook it up.  It is now working.
But I now have two more questions:
Boot from USB???27 Feb 2008 01:47 GMT10
I didn't think you could.  I know I never could when I had an external
HD connected to my USB.  Anyway, my friend now has an older HP machine
he picked up, with which he is having a problem getting it to boot. He
says the BIOS states the 'boot order' to be USB Device followed by
Antec P180/182 case temps26 Feb 2008 23:24 GMT6
For anyone with an Antec P180 or 182 case, if you notice
your video card and CPU temperatures increasing, it's

you have an extra fan in the middle drive bay.  The
