I'm looking for a box for my livingroom that will connect to my network and
play media files from my Linux server.
I've found a number of units online, but there's always something stopping
me from purchasing. Some don't support many file formats, some cost $500,

I have this wierd problem with a XPS 720.  I have it with 4GB of
memory (4x1024 mb).  Windows XP 32 bit detects it only as 3GB under my
compluter and the task manager.  CPUz shows all 4 slots filled
though.

Any recommendations for a motherboard with ECC support? I know most people
don't bother with ECC, but it seems likely that they just don't know if
their RAM has errors (unless it happens in a critical bit and Windows just
dies)

I did a Windows reinstall on my PC today, and completely reformatted
the hard drive as well.  Prior to the reinstall, I backed up all my
important files to my external HD.

I have two 160GB sata hard disks (Samsung and Hitachi). After a computer
crash both of them became 137GB (in bios and xp). I tried 3 different
motherboard's en one pci sata controller but the result is the same. All
motherboards recognise 500GB sata hard disks.

I have a hard disk(40G MAXTOR4K040H2) and used it as a backup store.but
today there is some problem:I setup it in my computer(third device)as I used
to do.but this time I could not start my OS system .I test the disk as first
device and setup from CDROM.read driver c: error.then I ...

I am tossing two old computers, but would like to put the hard drives into
cases to be used as "portable" drives. Is there somewhere I can go to find
out how to do this? Is it difficult?

Was recording sound in Audacity, and suddenly the recording sound
stream just stopped, and audacity recorded only silence. Sound from
the external source still goes into the pci sound card and out again
to the speakers, so the problem has to be somewhere in the pc. Trouble

I'm hoping someone can solve this little problem I've been having with
my CD drive.

I created a virtual drive equating to a folder on my HDD.  Now how do
I execute the drive to simulate playing a disk in a drive?

Working on a Gateway Computer.
The owner tells me the other day he heard beeps on the computer, but
now nothing.
I tried a new PS, took all cards out reseated RAM and CPU.

woke up one morning and turned my computer on and all that happened was
a flash of light from the neons on the front and nothing :( like a fuse
had been blown...  all parts were recently replaced all were new...  if
