Networked Harddrive - no prop soft?31 Oct 2006 19:44 GMT1
I know there are external hard drive "solutions" that plug into a network
through ethernet or wireless, etc, but I've noticed there's always
proprietary software involved in formatting the disk or installing an app to
get the thing working from other machines on the network.
Have I killed my computer??31 Oct 2006 10:33 GMT8
I am new to this forum so please be kind when I ask a silly question.
I have just gotten a new (old) computer that my work was throwing out.
I was working fine until I started to play with it. I also have my
brothers old hard drive from a computer that died, so last night I

to test it. On it's own, the printer will print it's own
SSID broadcast off31 Oct 2006 03:47 GMT4
I remember hearing this when I asked about turning SSID broadcast off
for a wireless router:
"You can usually turn off broadcasting the SSID at the router, but
there are plenty of reports that doing this can lead to connection
Additional PSU31 Oct 2006 02:24 GMT7
I have a Dell Demension 9200 with a measly 375W PSU. Is there anyway I
can add another PSU to power some of the peripherals like raid-5 HDs,
etc? I'm not looking for hot swap/redundancy, just some addional juice.
Thanks.

IDE to SATA Data and Power Conversion30 Oct 2006 21:08 GMT8
Like a moron I accidentally ordered 2 IDE drives instead of SATA.... I
don't really wanna pay newegg 28 bucks to restock and then buy new
ones(which i may end up having to do i guess)....  I've been looking
into converting IDE to SATA... and i've found neat products like these.
wireless encryption30 Oct 2006 16:40 GMT6
I noticed that, when I use WPA AES encryption on my wireless network, I
get disconnected a lot.  Is there another encryption scheme that's less
likely to disconnect me?
Thanks.
motherboard fried?30 Oct 2006 04:42 GMT6
I came home the other day and the mouse and keyboard on the PS/2 ports were
no longer working.  I was told by my son that he had 'accidently' put a
letter opener in a rear USB port, which caused the PC to reboot.  He said
that when it started up again, the mouse and keyboard were ...

I read that there is a device that allows you to set
up a comm network using your electrical outlets.  Anyone
know where to get this?
Thanks.
Power Supply Oddity30 Oct 2006 00:19 GMT2
I just noticed after a long, long time that the PC Health BIOS display for
my Biostar M7VIG motherboard reports 0v for the -5v rail.  The system works
just fine so I decided to look into it a little bit.  I discovered the power
connector on supply does not have a wire on pin 18 ( ...

Is it safe to say that if I don't broadcast my WiFi SSID the average
user can't use my network?
Thanks.
