About 4 months ago I purchased 2 Dell 530 systems.

MediaDirect 4.0 - less grief31 May 2008 03:20 GMT7
People have apparently given Dell so much negative feedback
about having to wipe out the hard drive and to have to re-install
Windows in the process of re-installing MediaDirect, that Dell
has a new MediaDirect - version 4.0 - that runs under Vista as
Inspiron Laptop Configurations30 May 2008 22:38 GMT7
A friend is looking at Inspiron laptops, and will buy in the next
month or so, so I've been curious about what configurations are
currently available myself.  I haven't kept up with the Inspiron line
of laptops, but I do check them once in a while, and just when I think

Sleep/RAID problem29 May 2008 00:10 GMT4
I have been having some quirky problems with my new computer being able to
go to sleep.  Sometimes it won't sleep, sometimes it sleeps but wakes up on
its own right away, sometimes it won't wake up at all.  I've tried different
settings in the advanced power settings and still ...
XPS 420 at WalMart28 May 2008 17:27 GMT18
I was at the WalMart today and was shocked to see a package with the
XPS420, 3GB, Q6600 Quad Core and a 19" LCD for $999.
Not a fantastic price, but not bad for something you can take home with
you.
Need an AV Free Rec28 May 2008 16:45 GMT33
I have a Dell system with XP Home.
I've used AVG for years and I've been satisfied. However, I will now have to
upgrade to AVG 8.0 Free and I keep reading about lots of problems with it.
I've read somewhere that Avira is excellent.
Dimension L566cx BIOS Level A0628 May 2008 16:35 GMT5
A Dell Dimension L566cx has found its way into my collection of Dell
systems, and I'm trying to figure out why it would see two (known
working) low density 256MB DIMMs as being only 64MB of installed RAM.
Since the system probably never saw a BIOS upgrade in its life, I'm

MediaDirect re-installation28 May 2008 03:36 GMT1
The re-installation of the MediaDirect partition that is found
on many, if not all, of Dell's laptops is bizarre.  The version
that currently ships with Vista is the MediaDirect 3.5.  To
re-install this thing, one is supposed to:
MediaDirect 3.5 (installed on Vista laptops)28 May 2008 03:32 GMT1
Dell's Windows laptops (at least some), ship with a partition
dedicated to an app called "MediaDirect" on a seemingly
embedded OS.  Trying to preserve the functionality of Media-
Direct while setting up a Linux dual-boot is getting to be a major
840028 May 2008 02:24 GMT20
I know this is a vague question, but is the Dimension 8400 generally a
good computer?
I might have an opportunity to pick one up with a 17" flat screen for
$175.00.  I don't have any particulars at this time.
Dimension 460028 May 2008 01:55 GMT5
I am having a problem with my floppy drive. It worked fine with XP but
now that I have upgraded to Vista, when I insert a floppy, it lights up
and sounds like it is working but then it says "the disk is not
formatted, would you like to format it now". I know the 3 floppies I am
