I realize it's been ~4 years, and the only explanation I have is that I was
feeling nostalgic, remembering better times in alt.sys.pc-clone.compaq,
wandering through the Google Groups archives when the subject of one of your
messages struck me as interesting. On November 2nd, 2004 ...

Compaq W8000 With 4GB Showing 3440 MB20 Nov 2008 11:38 GMT8
I installed eight 512MB RDIMMs (using authorized Compaq part numbers for the
memory) onto a Compaq W8000 workstation.     At bootup the computer BIOS is
reporting only 3440 MB present.
Is this a limitation of a particular BIOS release?   Is it corrected by a
Hard drive partitions not recognised in computer19 Nov 2008 21:04 GMT8
I have an HP Compaq D310 Desktop, and recently purchased a Hitachi
Deskstar T7K250.  When this hard drive is in the computer and I try to
run the Windows XP Professional setup CD, it does not recognise any of
the partitions and is unable to modify the disk in any way.  When I
Armada 7350 MT Setup17 Nov 2008 00:11 GMT5
Hi. I have just aquired a free 7350. It needs some TLC. I would like to know
how to get to the BIOS setup. I have heard references to F10 at logo screen,
but no logo screen appears on this one. The first thing I see at boot is
65XXXX free, then, "Starting Windows98". That's it. ...
Presario 544116 Nov 2008 06:57 GMT3
By default I have come to own a Presario 5441.  I'm looking to set it up for the kids to use when they visit. It had a bunged up Windows XP Pro installation, so I formated and started over with Windows 2000.   Looking to put it on a wireless home network.

Deskpro EN - RAM advice?11 Nov 2008 14:01 GMT11
I almost forgot - this computer came with a single 256 mb RAM card in,
DIMM, 133mhz etc.  According to Crucial.com it should only have up to
three 128 mb cards.  It seems fine.  Can I safely add a second one of
these, 256 mb again.
Floppy drive won't recognise disks - help?11 Nov 2008 01:57 GMT5
The remaining problem with this DeskPro EN 866 sff is that the floppy
drive won't work.  Initially the seller, a refurbishing company, seem
to have not plugged the power connector in (labelled P2?), which I've
now done.  I don't see how any of the leads can be in wrong - they
Sorry, me again - beep warnings and BIOS stall on Deskpro EN11 Nov 2008 01:53 GMT5
I'm hoping this is going to be simple because the machine is otherwise
working fine with the exception of the floppy drive, but my Deskpro
SFF 886 mhz seems to have some kind of problem which I'm hoping is not
related to a dying battery.  The first time I switch it on - to recap
display adaptor problem with Deskpro EN - advise?08 Nov 2008 10:18 GMT4
Hello, hope someone here can help, though I've put the post elsewhere
too.  I wanted a computer separate from my Vista laptop for specific
tasks and have bought a refurbished Compaq Deskpro En, 886 mhz, 320 mb
RAM, 20 gig hard drive.
Presario 2701US overheating, heatsink and fan problems04 Nov 2008 02:44 GMT11
I have a year and a half old Presario 2701US laptop running Windows XP Home.
Over the past few weeks the system has been just shutting down (needing
a complete reboot) with increasing frequency.  It got to the point where I
could rarely get it to start up completely, and doing ...
