Some one gave me a 5WV270. I know squat about Compaq. I hear that typically there are proprietary parts and non-standard procedures to follow. First, the CDROM isn't recognized at DOS or Windows. Does this CDROM

Suddenly windows/system does not recognize my CDRW drive.....any clues? I run windows update, AVG, spybot, Adaware, etc daily. The drive is about 6 months old...iomagic. When I look in sys info it is not even there??? Thanks in advance,

This is my first post here so be kind please ;-) I recently dropped my Presario 1260 laptop (in it's soft padded carry bag) onto it's WiFi card (note to self. Take all PCMCIA card out before moving laptop) ;-(

I woke this morning and found my CD-RW drive hadc a red glowing status light. Fow a while the computer would not even register the E drive was even there. It now shows the CD drive as present, but it will not read CD's. Does this mean that the drive needs to be replaced? I

A friend has a Presario 5630. I am trying to d/l it for her but don't have her serial number. I am trying to get a hold of her to get it. In the mean time, are there alternative locations other than http://www.dewaldsr.com ? I can't get enough bandwidth there.

Got myself an ebay special Compaq Presario 12XL300 Laptop minus hard drive. I've tried to install 3 known good hard drives and none are recognized in the bios and I get the message "Operating system not found" on boot. Any suggestions besides staying away from ebay?
