Spanning Tree Port Priority31 Aug 2005 23:56 GMT3
In my configuration report of my HP 4000m Procurve switch there lists a
section for Spanning Tree Operation, then a listing of ports and a
priority number.  I just barely understand this end of IT, but realize
a lower number represents higher priority.  However, if my config

Embedded Ethernet and Corporate LAN30 Aug 2005 10:35 GMT12
We have an embedded system, that has a SMSC 91C111 Ethernet Chip, ARM
Processor, and Windows CE 3.0.  Our system works great when not exposed to a
"Corporate Ethernet" environment.  When we put our system on a DSL line, it
works great.  We get massive buffer overflows on a typical ...
Auto negotiation and Gigabit cards, 29 Aug 2005 03:34 GMT14
I have a Gigabit card in a compaq server that is set to auto (negotiation

realise that this is not a good idea.
The Gigabit card connects at 100M full duplex.
Interpreting Intel 82450EM Ethernet Controller Stats29 Aug 2005 03:28 GMT1
I'm running a system based on Linux 2.4.31 with three Intel 82450EM
gigabit Ethernet ports. In trying to diagnose a througput problem, I'm
using ethtool to look at the controller registers, but I'm not sure how
to interpret the values of RDH and RDT (receive descriptor head/tail).
Losing connection...25 Aug 2005 17:20 GMT1
I'm not 100% sure whether this is an Exchange issue, or something on our
network, but either way it is very strange...
I have a 3com powered network, 4x 4200's, and a 4400 which is the
central one. I've disabled Broadcast Storm Control (which I thought

PoE powered device connected to the not PoE switch24 Aug 2005 20:50 GMT7
I design the Ethernet device that will be used mainly in PoE networks.
But I want to insert the addition power entry from external power
supplier to provide a possibility to use the same device in not-PoE

Switch Questions23 Aug 2005 19:04 GMT10
I manage a small network (75 desktops, 4 servers) with a single HP
Procurve 4000m switch which has one 1-port gigabit module and the other
7 modules having ten 10/100 ports.  I've got two HP Proliant DL servers

Linksys Lies!  WAPPOE(12) isn't 802.3af  !!22 Aug 2005 22:04 GMT10
I got a couple of sets of the Linksys WAPPOE12 Power-Over-Ethernet

Multicast MAC and Unicast IP Address22 Aug 2005 15:36 GMT7
Is it allowed to have a multicast MAC address linked to a unicast IP
address? If not what standard specifies this?
I know that this mechanism is used for clustering but that certain vendors
do not like it very much. I am interested in knowing what the rules are
