| Advice on CS8900 in full-duplex mode | 28 Nov 2003 09:49 GMT | 3 |
Dear All, subject to my previous post [1], I have now got the CS8900 going in full duplex mode. The collision rate now is exactly 0% (no collisions at all), but I've come across another more devastating problem; it seems the interface is "missing frames" (from what I can tell by ...

| SMC Barricade for segmenting the LAN? | 27 Nov 2003 20:08 GMT | 5 |
Had anybody used a SMC Barricade Cable/DSL broadband router (SMC7004VBR) for LAN segmenting? We think it will be a cheaper way than using a two NIC WindowsNT box, but we are facing troubles with the NAT features of the Barricade. Any experience with the product? Any advice?

Hello from Gregg C Levine Here's my problem. A while ago, my company re-wired a company's network, which was a mix of normal 10BASE-T networking, and AUI based stuff. They were using Synoptics 508A devices, and Synoptics 928

| Ethernet Equivalent of Ping? | 26 Nov 2003 00:59 GMT | 10 |
I guess the subject line more or less says it. Is there some sort of ping equivalent that can be used on an Ethernet to check whether a station is alive or not? If so, does anyone have pointers to something like an opensource example for GNU/Linux?

| Question regarding the operation of an ethernet switch | 22 Nov 2003 16:07 GMT | 5 |
Say you have a cisco switch, the switch recieves a packet on port 1, it attaches the "port 1" with the MAC of the machine that is connected to it. It then retains this info. The packet has a dest address, the switch reads it and tries to find

| Ethereal: Linux vs. Windows | 21 Nov 2003 23:46 GMT | 2 |
Have been using Ethereal on Linux but now have it over on Windows. I see where my capture filters are stored on Linux. Where are they in the Windows flavor? I would like to avoid retyping them. Thanks!

| Use of UNUSED pairs in CAT 5? | 21 Nov 2003 22:18 GMT | 2 |
After reviewing several reference designs for ethernet silicon to CAT 5 interface, can someone tell me WHY every single one of these reference designs show the UNUSED pairs (RJ45 Pins 4,5 and 7,8) shorted together and then terminated to AC ground through a 75 ohm resistor?

| Access Pts to Cover Large House | 21 Nov 2003 03:32 GMT | 1 |
Would like to set up 802.11g access pts (maybe 108 Mbps) to provide reliable full speed coverage for an 8,000 sq ft house. Already have a fairly extensive wired lan throughout the home. What products should I be looking at that allow multiple wireless access points, external

| Switch in a condo | 18 Nov 2003 05:27 GMT | 3 |
A friend of mine has a coworker who lives in a 300+ unit condo. Currently, there is a shared internet connection among all of the units. As a disclaimer, all of the info I have so far is second-hand. I'm told they have "a couple" of T1 lines coming in and that their current ...

| 1000BaseT vs. 1000BaseTX | 17 Nov 2003 23:51 GMT | 4 |
Was there a 1000BaseTX standard that never caught on? I can't tell because many people use the terms interchangably. I thought they meant the same thing but I've seen people say that 1000BaseTX is something different. So now I want to get things straightened out in

| W2k & W98 | 16 Nov 2003 15:34 GMT | 2 |
I have several W2k computers networked and would like to add an old Compaq running W98. It has only 32 M RAM and so I think it would probably not have enough to run W2k. I have tried setting it up to connect without success. Is it possible/difficult to get it to

What is the difference between these two connections. Is it worth spending the $600 on a fiber card if you have a fiber connection on your switch?

| Token ring print server | 14 Nov 2003 12:29 GMT | 4 |
I need to connect a token ring print server to a ethernet network, it has a RJ45 connector on it. What do I need to connect it to my network? It's a Lexmark Marknet 3 Pro. If any one ask why not just by a new one, I need the serial port on it.
