10/100BaseT through non-RJ45?31 Oct 2003 17:47 GMT7
In my embedded industrial application.  I need a weather tight connector
for the Ethernet 10/100.  There is only one RJ45 connector that is
environmentally sealed that I can find but it's VERY expensive.
Assuming I build the cable myself, is there any reason why I couldn't
Real-world Intel Pro/1000 MT 32-bit pci performance? (getting 3.5 to 4x increase over 100mbit perf)31 Oct 2003 15:15 GMT4
On a simple test with a pair of Intel Pro/1000MT 32-bit PCI cards, and
testing with NETIO, I get only 3.5 to 4 times better performance with
gigabit ethernet cards, compared to the scores NETIO gives me for fast
ethernet (100 mbit) cards.

Who Makes Ethernet Switch IC's?31 Oct 2003 01:59 GMT1
Does anyone know who makes Ethernet Switch (or repeater) IC's?  I have
an embedded application that will require one.  Industrial temp grade
would be a bonus and 10/100BaseT support is required.  Minimum of 3
ports.  Preferably unmanaged - just plug and go.
Regarding IP routing30 Oct 2003 23:20 GMT3
I have 2 networks NETWORK X and  NETWORK Y.Both networks are connected
via a ROUTER .Now if a host(HOST X) sitting on NETWORK A wants to
communicate with
HOST Y sitting on NETWORK Y , does it(HOST X) only require the IP
minimum cable length30 Oct 2003 05:58 GMT17
Having 2 ethernet interface connected with a RJ45 cable
and running 100MBit/s. I cable is short (less than about 2 meters)
I get receive errors (CRC failed) for all packets. If the cable is longer
is about 5 meters some packets wll arrive properly.
ethernet query29 Oct 2003 20:31 GMT10
Why ethernet is  popular than token ring,FDDI etc.,?
How do I tell what kind of  3Com Superstack II equipment I have ?29 Oct 2003 15:21 GMT5
I've just been asked to take over a rack full of 3com hubs (switches ?)
that have a "SuperStack II" badge on them and no other identification
on them other than a serial #.   I need a manual, and looking at the 3com
web site I find that there are several models. How do I tell
Passive 10BaseT Hub?29 Oct 2003 05:35 GMT5
Hello Ethernet Experts!
I'm a bit of an Ethernet Newbie,  I have an embedded application
design where I need to interface 2 embedded systems to a (not so
remote) LAN with only a single cable.  I have choosen the SMSC
RJ21 2 Pairs?28 Oct 2003 19:14 GMT1
I am correct in saying that the RJ21 connector only provides the data pairs
1,2 and 3,6 ?  I see Cisco do a Power over LAN card for RJ21 on their 6500
chassis (WS-X6518-RJ21V).  Anyone used voip on one of these cards?  I see
that there is no priority queue  - only two scheduled ...
Ethernet ICs28 Oct 2003 06:22 GMT2
This question may be more suited to an electronics group, but... ;)
Are there integrated circuits available that deal with sending/receiving
data on ethernet, collision detection and that sort of thing? Could you
please point me to datasheets or something?
RJ-45 and Magnetic options?27 Oct 2003 13:19 GMT1
I am looking at designing a quad ethernet port that supports
10/100/1000Base-T applications and am slightly confused over all the
RJ-45 and Magnetics options. I have sourced a number of manufacturers
of Integrated connectors, (Pulse, Bel Fuse, Halo) and by vieing their

Gigabit Null-modem Cable?27 Oct 2003 09:11 GMT1
I have two Gigabit cards, can I use them to connect two computers using a
stndard cat5 null modem cable? They are broadcom netXtreme cards, for
10/100/1000 so I guess if 1000 does not work it will default to 100Mbps. I
just want to make sure I do not damage the cards as I heard that ...
