I have a quick question as a newbie about networking, that I was hoping
someone might be able to help out with.
I have recently upgraded my DSL service with MNSI.NET (Toronto, Canada)
provider where they provide 6 static IP addresses (1 for router + 5 for
Phone use kills DSL connection, even with whole-house splitter26 Sep 2005 20:20 GMT12
Well, I installed a whole-house splitter, thinking that my problem was
with the dongle-type splitter that my ISP provided with DSL modem; but
using the phone on the same line that the modem is on still terminates the
DSL connection.
SBC DSL equipment25 Sep 2005 01:32 GMT3
I have ceBridge cable modem right now, but the service is only up about
70-80% of the time, and when it is up it is not reliable.   The lag is
a killer at night.  From my firewall logs, there appears to be a lot of
worms on my neighbors computers as they are constantly trying to
Qwest Refuses Customer Service24 Sep 2005 18:07 GMT2
Just called Qwest to order DSL on AUG 30 2:50. I was told that I can't
have DSL service in my area because all lines have already been leased.
So, no DSL for anyone in my area, but just recently our friends
ordered DSL and they just live a few miles away.
docsis_server DHCP problem22 Sep 2005 14:31 GMT3
Anyone using docsis_server to provision their cable modems? I am having
problems with the DHCP server part. Anything is working fine, but it
seems DHCP is not listening on port 67 like it should. If i can't get
this to work anyone know of a good dhcp server backended by a MySQL DB?
Yahoo Mail in DSL19 Sep 2005 02:14 GMT8
I've always been confused about why Yahoo Mail is different between DSL
and dialup.  The login screen is slightly different and I've always had
problems going from this screen to my own account when I use my
friend's computer (she has DSL).  Why are the two things different?

Earthlink DSL with Linksys router: use DHCP or/and PPPoE?17 Sep 2005 15:34 GMT1
I have my own Linksys router for a home network, and got DSL service with
Earthlink. Per default settings, the router is configured with DHCP, IP
assigned by server, not static. The Earthlink setup information I got is
intended for one computer only, not connection through a router ...

Zoom X3 Modem problems10 Sep 2005 03:32 GMT1
We have a zoom x3 adsl modem on a 2mb adsl line, but it seems really
unreliable, every so often(maybe once or twice a day) it seems to stop
working.  This can normally be fixed by going to the control panel and
resetting it, but sometime it seems to totally lock up so you can't ...
Is there a performance advantage to having DSL on a phone line of its own?06 Sep 2005 07:15 GMT4
Hi. I currently have DSL and a separate phone line dedicated to it.
I've done it this way since I became a subscriber a few years ago.
I'm considering a change in this arrangement to save some money. If I
move my DSL subscription to my other phone line, the one that I use for
