| Pullling cable in conduit | 26 Aug 2006 16:02 GMT | 5 |
Someone made a comment awhile back about running a rag soaked in cable lube through the conduit before running the cable. I use half a plastic bag instead of a rag, but the lube pre-pull makes a big difference if you've never tried it before.

| Patch Cable Quality - Brand Differences? | 21 Aug 2006 21:15 GMT | 1 |
I'm ordering a bunch of short Cat 6 patch cables and found an inexpensive supplier. The supplier apparently uses cables made by Abergetty, whom I've never heard of. Abergetty's website is almost nonexistent, but the supplier says they meet or exceed the 568-B.2-1 standard and ...

| CAT6 Requires Shielded Connectors? | 21 Aug 2006 19:49 GMT | 5 |
Does CAT6 require shielding around the connector? The Systimax cables we have purchased all have such shielding, whereas some Intellinet cables we have are without any connector shielding. I'm curious what the standard requires.

| Cabling "classifieds" site? | 21 Aug 2006 03:32 GMT | 5 |
I closed down my cabling biz a couple years ago and sold off a lot of my specialty tools/test equipment, but still have a few things left. (Cable reel stands, fiber termination kits/connectors/microscopes, lots of copper and fiber optic cable etc..)

All, How do you go about removing the last layer from tight buffered cables. I am doing some multimode, and am having real trouble getting the final coating off the fibres.

If you've read my post about moving copper service, you know I'm going to have copper phone lines and T1 PRI service added to my server room. I could slap any old piece of plywood on the wall behind my rack for mounting the blocks, media converters, etc, but my boss places a ...

| Crimping satin wire ? | 12 Aug 2006 04:15 GMT | 5 |
Is crimping RJ11 plugs on satin wire a DIY job. I don't see satin wire on Radio Shack's web site. Is 100 ft spools of it, and plugs an item at a real phone/alarm/data supply store? I need to put phones around an office for a short term project. They

| Question on getting proper spec cable installed from the pole to the house | 12 Aug 2006 02:08 GMT | 15 |
Hi. I'm getting cable modem service soon. I have rewired my entire house with Belden 1694A cable. So all of the cable in my house is now RG-6, all the way out to the grounding block outside in the gray cable company box.

| STP is not grounded | 11 Aug 2006 10:35 GMT | 1 |
We are expanding our office into some adjacent space. The space we're taking over has some finished offices that we're going to keep, and their drops run to a nice little wiring closet not that far from our own server room. I figured I'd just throw my switch into their closet ...

| Video via nonshielded pair | 09 Aug 2006 00:43 GMT | 1 |
We have several wired security cameras that are connected to the DVR by simple non-shileded two-wire cable. The cameras give output on BNC connector, to which we attached the two-wire cable. It runs for 400' , then connects to the BNC input of the DVR. It works OK, the picture ...

| switches too dense to add/move/change | 07 Aug 2006 18:35 GMT | 2 |
I'm working in a couple of closets, which have Catalyst 6509s in them. In the past, ethernet drops were pulled to the closet, and punched-down on the backs of some RJ45 patch panels. Patch cords were used to cross-connect the panels to the Catalyst switches. As the switches
