Terminators? Why aren't they required as they are with a coaxial system?28 Jun 2006 00:53 GMT18
If I were to connect computers together using coaxial cable and BNC
connectors, I would have to ensure a terminator is fixed at either end
to prevent reflections up and down the line.  Why are the not needed
using twisted pair into RJ45?

I have a guy @ work that runs a SAN and insists on buying expensive cat
6 cables for every device he plugs his servers into.  The cost is about
50% more for these cables.  I have run gig, even striped across many
disks getting very high bandwidth rates on c5e for years.  I am trying

CAT5 25 pair and 66M or 110  blocks25 Jun 2006 10:57 GMT30
I'm going to be running several 50 pair buried CAT5 cable drops for a
new install and it just occurred to me - will I have problems punching
down a 25 pair side to a 66M or 110 block. I've done it before, but
never gave a thought if I'm loosing any data cable integrity.
Miswired Cable Works?25 Jun 2006 10:42 GMT14
I went to new customer's office yesterday to identify and label the
data cabling installed (but never used) by the previous occupant.
EVERY cable was miswired, with ALL pairs reversed at the patch panel.
The problem was easy enough to identify and correct, however, I'm
Cat 5e vs 6 and gigabit ethernet25 Jun 2006 09:30 GMT6
Last year, I bought, maybe, my last box of Min Compliant cat-5e cable.
A customer called and wanted to know why he can't send his new GIG
ethernet stuff over the cable.
So I got to thinking.  Has anyone tried pushing GIG over 5e?  The
Best "butt" set?25 Jun 2006 01:29 GMT8
I'm looking to buy a new (new to me, that is...) test set for POTS work. I
like the TS44 Deluxe with its data protection feature and speakerphone, but I
seem to see more TS22's in use (mostly by the telco techs).
Comparison charts are quite common:
I gotta get out of the cabling/telco field22 Jun 2006 22:48 GMT5

today and post them....they got 5 Cat 5e lines taped with duct tape from
Cat 6 STP distance limitation21 Jun 2006 20:07 GMT10
What is the distance limitation on Category 6 Shielded Twisted Pair?  I
will need it to support 100 mbps and 1gbps.
The cable is already in, and I did not choose to use it.  I just want
to make sure it's going to work.
