Cabling test Failure28 Apr 2006 09:47 GMT7
We've been running our own Cat5 cables for about 5 years, for the first
time today we had a failure that isn't a wire map problem. The test
fail the attenuation test. Plenty of Googling has added to the
confusion. We have run two cables, both taking the same path, and both

CAT-5 cable stuck in ethernet port - can't remove26 Apr 2006 18:55 GMT2
I just bought a brand-new laptop (Thinpad R52) and connected a CAT-5
cable into the Ethernet port.  It seemed a bit tight at first when
inserting the cable, but after a bit of pressure, I felt the cable snap
in to place.  Everything worked fine until I tried to remove the cable.

Any input is appreciated.

EIA/TIA standard regarding EIA-232 flow control?20 Apr 2006 06:23 GMT1
I could have sworn that a few years ago I saw an EIA/TIA standard that
was intended to address the fact that RTS/CTS flow control is in
widespread usage, but that in this common usage RTS does not mean
request to send, but rather that the DTE is ready to accept data from
When was teh CAT-3 spec for cable finalized?18 Apr 2006 17:22 GMT2
What year did they start labeling CAT-3 on ethernet-grade UTP cable?
Just curious. I installed first generation Cabletron hubs and don't
recall CAT labeling happening until sometime later.
cabling labels18 Apr 2006 07:15 GMT6
I'm looking for a good (and long lasting) way to label 4 wire flat
telephone cables (I don't know the technical name of the cable). I
tried using p-touch labels, but they came off. I also tried using

toolless cat5e jacks08 Apr 2006 15:27 GMT1
I bought a bunch of these by mistake while assembling parts for a small
home cabling project. I've used a 110 punchdown tool in the past, but
as near as I can tell, you only need to compress the hinged cap of the
toolless jack with a pair of pliers? Each jack also came with two ...
