New techniques29 Apr 2005 03:49 GMT9
I would be grateful if someone could upgrade my knowledge on new
techniques to lay down fiber cable in urban areas, either in sewerage,
water conduit or directly in their own protective duct.
Are there any new techniques which enable minimum digging and damage to
Troubleshooting a 100' CAT5 cable - need assistance29 Apr 2005 02:28 GMT29
I'm having a CAT5 network cabling issue and am fresh out of
troubleshooting ideas.  The cable is a CAT5 stranded cable, which I
made to be about 100 feet long.  Each end uses an RJ-45 connector and I
made the cable a crossover cable to connect two NICs directly (pins 1-3
Fiber to 50-pair conversion26 Apr 2005 15:47 GMT15
Hello all.  I need to replace an old building-to-building 50-pair
burried cable (for voice) and was wondering if I can use an existing
Fiber run.
If so.  What do I need on each end of the run?
Consequence of omitting DSR in a serial null-modem cable?25 Apr 2005 20:48 GMT1
I'm attempting to interface serial devices using standard Category 5
cables, since they are cheap, widely available, and can be manufactured
in long lengths.  To achieve this, I have obtained several adapter kits
that convert D-Sub 9 and D-Sub 25 connectors to RJ45 connectors.
Home Wiring for DSL and 4 Extensions25 Apr 2005 16:27 GMT5
I have a DSL outside splitter near the NID.
I would like to have four voice extensions (one telephone number) installed
in the house.
After browsing the web, I've decided I want to use star topology.

Help with NORDX jacks22 Apr 2005 16:45 GMT3
We had a contractor come in and do some wiring, and they used NORDX/CDT
IBDN jacks.  I think they say 6+ on them.  I have never used these, my
experience is with ATT/Lucent/Avaya/Systimax and Leviton.  So what is
the secret to taking the jacks out of the faceplate?  From what I saw,
Corrosion in RJ11 / RJ45 Connectors19 Apr 2005 13:48 GMT6
Has anyone encountered corrosion in RJ11 / RJ45 jack / plugs? I think
this effect might be mostly limted to areas closer to the sea, high
humidity areas, in higher temperature areas and where there might be
additional airborne pollutants. Florida and Hawaii come to mind.

How to make a cable entrance in the data closet?13 Apr 2005 21:34 GMT7
I hope this is not a (too) stupid question. I am running some wires in
my 2-story house and setting up a "data closet" in a closet :-) The
closet is on the second floor, so there will be a a whole bunch of
cables coming down from the attic inside the wall and then to the patch
Extending coax cause signal loss?12 Apr 2005 17:50 GMT10
I'm routing all RG6 cable (4 lines) in my attic to an
Antronix splitter. At least two of the cables are too
short to reach the splitter. It seems I have two options:
* use the existing cable to pull new cable.  Or,
Fluke Intellitone - opinions12 Apr 2005 01:01 GMT1
I purchased a Fluke Intellitone 200 kit last week.  So far I'm not very
impressed, but I haven't had much time to work with it.  To those who
already have one, how do you think it compares to what you had before?
T568A or T568B? Check out what Fluke has to say11 Apr 2005 20:29 GMT12
I'm fully aware that it looks like I'm beating up a dead horse, but
there's been a (relatively) new piece of evidence published by Fluke on
the 15+ years old discussion. I think it's worth to look at if you are
making this decision for yourself or the customer.
Ordering Cat5 online10 Apr 2005 12:42 GMT1
OK, this is a real easy one. Also, I know a Google search will get me 1000s
of results, but I figured since you guys have probably done so much
research on it, I can save myself an hour or two sourcing.
Anyway, simple question: Where is the cheapest and best place to buy Cat5
