Power and ground in old houses30 Mar 2005 16:12 GMT11

pre-war wiring.  Two prong receptacles, not many of them, and
who-knows-what behind the walls.  Of course everything the user wants
to hook up requires 3 prong outlets.
crudely detecting/measuring digital video30 Mar 2005 02:12 GMT1
Is there a safe way (not shorting out the conductors) of either
detecting or crudely measuring a digital video signal?  I've got an
analog signal strength meter, but it won't register anything with a

The TV's and cable modem at the end of the cable have a lot of shadowing and
other noise.  The cable modem also occasionally will ...

ADSL over CAT-5e?09 Mar 2005 19:43 GMT6
I'm in the UK and I have an ADSL-enabled BT line coming in next to the
patch panel for a Cat 5e cabled office.  Can I extend the ASDL to
another part of the office over the Cat 5?
I suppose I'd need by the patch panel a BT plug -> RJ45 conversion ..
