Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I need to find, hopefully
online, guidelines or building codes regarding network and telephone wiring
in a commercial space in Alexandria City VA.

best suppliers for telecom/networking wiring and adapters26 Dec 2004 03:42 GMT4
I used to be able to get just about everything that I needed 10 years ago
from Graybar, Anixter, and Datacom Warehouse. Datacom Warehouse is closed
and now Graybar and Anixter's catalogs seem like they are no longer around
and it is too difficult to figure out if I'm ordering ...
Attaching J-hooks and backboards to cinderblock walls?25 Dec 2004 01:59 GMT10
What's the right tool and anchor system for attaching stuff like J-hooks
and backboards to cinderblock walls?
I'm probably going to set less than a hundred anchors/year, so I'm
hoping I don't need a $500 tool.

How to Plug a big hole?25 Dec 2004 00:17 GMT10
We have a hole between floors that must be about 3 inch by 16 inch, that
allows the 100 pair telephone cables to pass between the electrical room
on one floor to the same room on the floor above and below.  This is
just an open hole, no fire stop or anything.  I would like to put
Patch Panels25 Dec 2004 00:10 GMT5
I'm currently studying for my Network+ Certification exam and I came
across patch panels in my reading and I understand that they provide a
safe place for all the cables, organization, as well as providing
flexibility.  But my reading was vague on the connection provided by
Cat5 568B cable wrong... but right.  Huh?23 Dec 2004 10:13 GMT5
Explain this and I'll send you some Christmas cookies...
I have a OEM cat5 cable.  On the side it says "EIA-568B".
You and I know that, at the very least, pins 1,2 and 3,6 should match
up.  You and I also know what 568B says the wiring order needs to be:

Well, the SBC tech showed up today and got a bunch of new phone lines
turned up at the MPOE in our new bldg, but it wasn't exactly as

cable so that instead of 1 - 50, and 51 - 100, it's 51 - 100, and 1 -

I give up:  Thieves suck!19 Dec 2004 23:27 GMT8
I had (2) Harris butt sets stolen in the last 2.5 months.   The first one
was stolen out of my truck at a worksite.
The second was stolen along with a toner set, 3 impact tools, 3 stud sensors, 1-UTP jacket
remover tool, and a DMM.
straight-through T-adapter with 3 jacks for RS42215 Dec 2004 04:15 GMT4
I'm looking for a T-adapter wired straight-through with RJ11 6conductors
that has 3 jacks going into the one plug. I'm using it with RS422 serial
connections. Any idea where I can purchase one? The suppliers that I'm
familiar with seem to stock only 2 jack adapters.
Recommendation for Cable Tester with Trace and Tone Generator?12 Dec 2004 23:58 GMT8
I need to get a UTP cable tester with trace and tone generator capability.
The trace/tone generator must be able to be used on a live circuit without any
damage to the tester or the NIC / Switch that may be on the other end.
I say this because I accidentally blew out a Compucable ...
