Cat5 cabling supplies in Toronto?29 Jul 2004 20:14 GMT2
I find myself tasked with installing Cat5 network cabling in various
locations in Toronto.   This is fine, but I'm sure there are better places
to get supplies locally.   I need things like modular (f) jacks, patch
panels and cable run covers (it'd probably help if I knew what ...
hey! where are short network patch cables?28 Jul 2004 23:11 GMT4
I'm in the market for short (6 to 9 inch) straight patch cables. I've
got this ethernet "box" with a lot of jacks and the cable only needs
to go about 6 inches from jack to jack.
I don't know anything about networking, etc., I'm just buying the
Is my 468 Cable tester dead ?27 Jul 2004 22:05 GMT5
I bought a bunch of used tools for my home wiring project and most of
them are in working condition. This 468 tester (Progressive
electronics) I'm not too sure about. I changed the 9V battery,
connected a CAT5 patch cable between the transmitter and reciever and

terminating 25 pair cable18 Jul 2004 03:36 GMT5
Anybody know if there are 25 pair cable kits where I dont have to use a
butterfly tool?  I have one connector end on a 25 pair cable I need to put on,
and I dont see the need to waste money on a tool I never use.
Thanks for any help.

phone and power lines in the same trench17 Jul 2004 05:56 GMT8
My girlfriend and I just bought some land, and we have to have a trench
dug for the power to come from the power pole to the house (that I still
have to build). I was wondering if putting the phone line in the same
trench (different conduit though) would dirty up the signal as it ...
Minimum 10Base100 Cable Length17 Jul 2004 05:53 GMT3
I've scoured the Internet searching for the minimum 10Base100 UTP

state different lengths and include footnotes with different
applications...
Tracing tips/tricks16 Jul 2004 03:46 GMT5
I was trying to trace a phone cable in a residential installation the
other day, only to find that it was bridged with many other lines in the
house at a 66 block.  Naturally, the tone appeared on all cables.
Anyone got any tips/tricks for tracing a cable in this situation?

Windows 2000 Server network.

networking involved.
