Please help me with a strange problem. I inherited a linux system with a dual athlon tyan tiger MP 2460 and a topower TOP-300RM PS powering 9 disks and 1GB RAM in 2 DIMMs.

Fwiw to those contemplating an upgrade...I have a pair of 2600 MPs (Barton core) in my 2460. Boots fine and says CPU speed is "2000 MHz" (BIOS 1.04). Problem is, according to the BIOS hardware monitor, CPU 0 is 10C hotter than CPU 1. Is this:

When I installed a new chipset cooler this morning I accidentally knocked what looks like a capacitor off my S2466-4M motherboard. (Those damn AMD collers are so hard to clip into place - my tool slipped).

Does anyone know whether the 2460 (Phoenix BIOS 1.05) will support 48bit LBA? I know I can enable the setting in Windows2000 registry but have heard it will corrupt things if the capability is not really there. Got a new big disk and rather not buy a card.
