I have a problem where the only time my computer will boot is right after I

A couple years ago, there was talk in this group and others about
people's SY-KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum Edition motherboard freezing up
at random momemts. Based on what I read, I don't think the problem was
ever truly diagnosed. Although everybody had the same basic problem,

I just purchased a usb 2.0/firewire external hard drive. when I first
plugged it in, it basically froze.  I tried to view an avi file off of
the drive and i viewed about 2 fps.  I installed an external
firewire/usb 2.0 card but had the same problem.  I am running xp sp2

Aded new hard drive/80 cable to system and now won't boot.  Gives 2 sec beep
about every 4 or 5 seconds.
I hope I did not inadvertently break something with my big hands.
Need suggestions her, please.
