I have 2 Freecom Toughdrives (external hard drives in a small shock
resistant format powered only from the USB port).  The 160Gb one I
have had for over a year and it works fine on all of my USB ports.  
I have just purchased a 320Gb version and this works fine on USB ports

Like some others here I have been away from the computer scene for
