P5E WS Pro BIOS30 Jun 2008 14:04 GMT1
Asus has a new bios (0704) out for this board, but no docs as to what
issues it may address, or fix.
If it fixes the slow boot start problem (in a recent thread) that
would be great.  Does anyone have any info on this BIOS?
Reliable power supplies with LOTs of connectors29 Jun 2008 10:18 GMT4
I need to power up about 9 or 10 hard drives in a tower case. Both
regular ide (molex) and sata. I could probably get by with about 500W
or above.
I've been using Antec Neo-series power supplies, but have had some
Is there a trick to installing Intel heatsink/fan assemblies?27 Jun 2008 17:04 GMT45
I'm upgrading 2 computers, both to P5E's with Intel E8400 and heatsink/fan
assembly.  Both have been a bear to get mounted and locked down.
It sounds simple.  Line up the 4 pegs and push down until they lock.  The
problem is the locking mechanism is very weak and the processor is ...
Major mobo change w/o XP reinstall possible?27 Jun 2008 14:07 GMT21
Is it possible to make a major mobo change (from gigabyte to Asus)
without reinstalling XP from scratch? Or would this be a very long day
with perpetual problems haunting me?
If it can be done, any pointers or step by step for the software
Lacking PS/2 Mouse Port27 Jun 2008 02:37 GMT8
FYI, for anyone buying a new ASUS motherboard and finding out it doesn't
have a PS/2 mouse port, here is what I tried that worked.
My situation was more complicated than just replacing the mouse because I
have a PS/2 KVM switch which I would also have to replace if I went with a

A8V Graphics Card26 Jun 2008 19:49 GMT3
I tried upgrading my graphics card to a Radeon HD 2600XT AGP and the
printing to the display was corrupt.  For example, if I tried scrolling a
web page quickly, the writing would smear.
To my dismay, the drivers are not windows qualified either.
Generic Temp Monitor Utility?26 Jun 2008 18:42 GMT2
Are there any generic utilities I can run in windows that would let me
monitor CPU temp? Or is this always mobo manufacturer specific?
I have a gigabyte mobo on an inherited system that I need to watch and
their software unfortunately doesn't work on their own mobo :-(
Vista issue with PB526 Jun 2008 12:50 GMT1
I am running Vista Home Premium.  I had been running 2 Western Digital
500GB drives in RAID 0 mode.  The external enclosure was a Fantom
enclosure.
The controller was going bad, so I bought a Xtrastor 3.5 x2 HDD
Motherboard discussion forums?26 Jun 2008 10:24 GMT6
Anyone know of any active mobo discussion forums? I have a gigabyte
mobo that may have some issues. The alt.gigabyte forum is dead so I am
looking for something we based where there might be some knowledgable
folks.
P4S800 (and dimilar) DDR configurations / slots?26 Jun 2008 04:09 GMT3
While check out the P4.800... series (see my other post on "Recommend
a mobo") I ran into this at the Asus site on the P4S800:
"DDR400 (PC3200), the latest and fastest DDR memory standard, supports
bandwidth up to 3.2GB/s to provide enhanced system performance. (Note:

What are the differences between these two board sets on a practical
basis ?
Suggestions for a good AM2+ mobo?26 Jun 2008 01:55 GMT7
Hey all,
I'm Intel all the way at the moment. However, a friend bought a built-up
'gaming machine' (I've mentioned it before here, it's been nothing but
trouble) using an Asus M3A motherboard, a Phenom 9500 CPU, 1x2GB DDR2 module
Recommend  Mobo to me!25 Jun 2008 19:13 GMT1
I need to replace a mobo. I'd like to reuse the components I have now
on this one:

    - ATI AGP Radeon 1300/512 XGPro
For once, a pleasant download surprise...25 Jun 2008 04:18 GMT4
When you use support.asus.com and do a download, I
think you'll be in for a pleasant surprise.
I managed to download at my full capped rate today!
(A puny 300KB/sec, but that is ADSL for you.)
