I'm considering buying a Viewsonic 20" LCD (VX2025WM) and need to know
whether my AIW 9000 Pro will drive it. I'm running Catalyst 9.08 which
is the latest software than is stable on my PC.

The maximum resolution that shows when I open properties on my current
crt monitor is 1600 x 1200 and the native resolution of the LCD I am
considering is 1680 x 1050.

My (limited) understanding is that an LCD should be run at native
resolution so will this monitor work with my video card? Will the
drrivers that come with the monitor enable me to match resolutions,
perhaps?

Any practical advice other beyond replacing my admittedly old video
card would be greatly appreciated.

The monitor should come with a 'driver' disk that will set the proper
resolution.

My AIW 8500 is working perfectly on a 19" WS flatpanel at 1440x900,
but that resolution didn't show until I used the disk that came with
the monitor.

Your AIW 9000 Pro only support 1600x1200 @100Hz

So it doesn't matter if your new LCD has a native resolution of
1680x1050.  It will still be @ 1600x1200.

Here is the spec for your card:

Bullshit.

Makes NO DIFFERENCE!  Use the 'driver' disk that comes with the monitor!

Most of the monitors now a day do not come with a driver disk because
they automatically communicate with your graphic card through
DDC(http://www.hwupgrade.com/monitor/index6.html).  All the features of
the monitor is communicated to your graphic card by DDC.

But Kat is correct in that your LCD's native resolution can be display
on AIW9000.  The problem will occur if you try to excess your LCD's DDC
resolutions.
