burning a .IMG file

mike7411@gmail.com - 22 Dec 2006 21:25 GMT I was wondering if someone can recommend a good Windows XP program for burning a .IMG file to CD. I tried renaming it to .ISO and using Roxio, but I don't think it burned correctly.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

They use substantially different alloys. You may be able to write to the non-HS (4x) media at 4x, but the recording will be poor and reliability will be low. =======================

I believe yours is a High Speed drive. You will want High Speed media in it even at 4x.
It's the alloy, not the speed, which dictates which medium to use - speed is a side effect.

====================== From: Mike Richter (the Slimiest Lying Friggin SOB) Date: 10/20/02 Subject: 4x CDRW's in 12x Writer?
No, it is not intended to be drive-specific and I grant that it's possible that Plextor has added a capability in some drives to do better than others.
However, I have tested non-HighSpeed erasables in my 12x HighSpeed and 8x non-HighSpeed Plextors and find substantially higher error rates at 4x in the HighSpeed drives. ======================
The above is an unadultered white LIE. There was NO way Mike Richter could have found "error rates". First, there was NO error rate measuring software supporting Plextors. They're not independant, they're basically the same thing except for which level of error correction can correct the error. You're using a program that just doesn't report C1 errors, as indicated by the fact that the "C1 error" part in your screenshot is greyed out.
Now I know why you can create disks that have no C1 errors. =============================================

Are you saying that you get zero C1 errors? I don't think so.
Zero C2 errors isn't much of a standard; I require zero C2 errors for *anything*, not just "critical" stuff. =====================

The above is an unadulterated white LIE. There was NO way Mike Richter could have found "error rates". First, there was NO error rate measuring software supporting Plextors. Second, even if there was such a software, it could not have found error rates -- because the above Plextors do NOT report C1 errors.

I think that a C2 error is a C1 error(s) that couldn't be corrected with the C1 error correction capabilities. They're not independant, they're basically the same thing except for which level of error correction can correct the error. You're using a program that just doesn't report C1 errors, as indicated by the fact that the "C1 error" part in your screenshot is greyed out.

The above is an unadulterated white LIE.
There will always be some C1 errors. They say C1 errors are built into the CD. There is no CD with zero C1 errors.

Now I know why you can create disks that have no C1 errors. =============================================

Is he in the mail room? I certainly hope he has nothing to do with the engineering side if he's so greatly misinformed.
For your information (I'm afraid he may be hopeless),
I have actually measured error rates with different media in three drives - all 4x. The best results were when writing at 4x, 2x was slightly poorer and 1x was worst of all. ======================
The above is an unadulterated white LIE. There was NO way Mike Richter could have measured "error rates" (C1/C2 errors). Mike Richter did NOT even have a drive reporting C1 errors.
And Mike Richter does NOT even know what C1/C2 errors are!

====================== From: Mike Richter Date: 4/17/00 Subject: whats the point of 8x cd recording if you can hardly ever write?
I have never understood the advantage of 8x writing to begin with - unless you're in the mass-pirating business. I make enough mistakes at 2x and 4x.
I find that the BLER is lower at 2x even on the 8x blanks I prefer. ======================
The above is an unadulterated white LIE.
First, it directly contradicts the (7/22/00) post. Second, there was NO way Mikey could have found the BLER -- Mikey had NO time to use a BLER tester:
====================== From: Mike Richter Date: 4/23/00
I have borrowed a machine which will do BLER testing - if only I can find the time to use it.
====================== From: Mike Richter Date: 12/29/00
I have a BLER tester on loan; all I need is the time to set it up and learn to use it.
Maybe by 2003 if I'm lucky. ======================

Even the T-Y [Taiyo Yuden] high-speed discs available under various rebadgers' names do not write acceptably at 4x and below. ======================

I'm still using my old Matshita 4x SCSI burner, which has always burned excellent quality audio at 4x. Using high-speed media at this low speed has not affected my results. ======================
"Even the T-Y" in the above (8/4/05) post changed to "(inexpensive)":

modern (inexpensive) high-speed media may not be optimum at such low speeds. ======================
