Hi all!

After looking a long time around and not finding any hint I'll just try
here:

I have a couple of DKR2D-J72FC discs (one a side sticker they are named
DK32DJ-72) made by Hitachi. These drives are fibre channel drives as far
as I know, and I wanted to use them in my Sun Enterprise 3500. As this
is just a hobby for me and I got them very cheap I just tried. But they
don't work :-(

So, I only have a 'normal' PC and was wondering if there is a (cheap)
solution to attach these drives there (for use or testing). They have a
40pin SCA connector.

Can anybody give me a hint if it is possible to connect these drives to
a pc? I looked and only found fibre optic pci cards, but that would
mean, that I need a rack. Any way to connect these drives directly?
Would be a shame if they would be unuseable - since they have 72GB and I
have five of them.

TIA,
Jan

Try searching for Fibre Channel "T" cards. This is the first hit that comes
up:

With a DB9 version, an appropriate FC adapter (QLogic 2100 or so??) and
copper FC cable you can attach these to your PC.

Hi Rob,

thanks for quick reply - this is excatly what I looked for.

I looked at google and there are some different versions of these QLogic
controllers, some have copper some have fibre. But they are rare to find
at all and quite expensive.

As I am a student I don't want to buy one if I don't know if the drives
itself are working at all. I installed them into my E3500 (old, loud and
takes a lot of power) but the OBP doesn't see the drives at all and they
dont even spinup. After some searching I found that these drives are
2GBit FC and my Sun is 1 GBit and older than the drives are - may be the
sun and these drives don't understand eachother? Is anybody out the who
has possibility to test such a drive for me?

Jan
