Dell A920 ink carts

My daughter recently purchased a second-hand Dell P4 that came with the
above referenced printer. I normally order my ink from PrintPal for my Canon
printer but am unable to find the Dell replacements listed. In reading
through this ng I see that the A920 is apparently a modified Lexmark  unit
and am wondering if anyone has found it possible to substitute Lexmark
replacement carts to use in the A920.

Barring that, does anyone have any recommendations for purchase of the Dell
carts for the thing at reasonable prices from reputable on-line ink vendors?
A Google search turned up a zillion ink sellers but I'm not familiar with
any but PrintPal.

Heh, a SHOUTING a.shole at that! You even threw in a classic "mother"
insult!

As a troll, you're fairly pathetic, but I'm a little surprised to see your
kind in the "comp" hierarchy. Just out of curiosity, did you get laughed out
of one of the other hierarchies where the real trolls hang out, or are you
just a kid using Mommy's PC?

The net is full of pathetic little wanna-be's like measle-kid, and some are
fun to poke with pointy sticks for the amusement value. This little half-wit
isn't one of them, though, the best thing to do with a PITA like this is
just ignore him to death.

Might I suggest, as a newcomer to comp.periph.printers, that you do what
almost all of us have done, and filtered out this person's postings.  He
writes hundreds a day usually with little to no valuable information,
and it will only be a gain for you to be rid of him.

Also, he gets off on being responded to, even if it is in a derogatory
manner, so to extinguish his presence, best to ignore him.  Most of his
information is absolutely useless anyway.

Most other members here have asked his messages not be quoted either, so
we don't have to accidentally run into his posts.

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE.  IF HE FILTERS THAT PERSON OUT THAN HOW DOES HE
KNOW HOW MANY MESSAGES.  HE MUST LOOK TO FIND OUT.  HE JUST LIKES TO
MAKE HIMSELF FEEL ABOVE OTHERS BY GETTING PEOPLE TO CLOG THEIR PRINTERS
WITH GENERIC INK AND THEN TRYS TO BE A BIGSHOT AND SEND THEM A
UNCLOGGING MANUAL THAT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK.

IMPOSSIBLE. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY JERKS ON THIS NG.  ONE OR TWO WILL
ALWAYS PLAY BALL.  CURRENTLY IT IS PECKERBLOOMER (BACK FROM THE DEAD)
AND TATER TOT.  AND THEN THERE IS TOMCAT AND HIS MAMA

Before you monkey around with the dell a920 do consider the high cost
of consumables, and the relativly low cost of a replacement printer.
IIRC this is one of those that the cost of ink is SO high that another
printer costing $100 would be cheaper after the first refill of OEM
ink.  In the past i've mailed these pritners to  One Dell Way Round
Rock Texas with no return address in the hopes they get the message
that they are not worth the cost of their ink.

If after consideration you stick with the dell... I have no direct
experence modifying the a920.  Physicaly from my understanding you can
modify the printer with an x-acto knife to accept lexmark cartridges.
Whether or not the printer is electronicly keyed to "dells" version is
not something I personaly know.

Should this interest you I would strongly sugest seeking a greater
authority than my self.  I'm only aware that Dell buys their printers
from Lexmark, and some cartridges that are the same except for some
minor shape changes so you are forced to buy your ink from Dell.
Beyond that I personaly I avoid these printers.

Heh, you must feel strongly to invest that kind of postage.

Interesting. Seems worth investigating, though. I doubt my daughter will
want to buy another printer unless this one is too expensive to maintain.

I agree, if it were mine I'd probably give it away. The group from which the
link you posted originated may be a good source for information of this
sort, thanks for that.

To my knowledge only Dell sells Dell cartridges for their printers.
Yes, Lexmark has the contract, but Dell was unhappy with making nothing
on printers while others made the money on the ink cartridges, where the
profits are, so they decided to rebrand and alter the Lexmarks so people
would be forced to buy the cartridges from them.

No big surprise there, Michael Dell is a big Bush supporter...

They give you the printers o you have to buy your ink from them.  I'd be
surprised there are any 3rd parties making anything but refilled
cartridge.  My suggestion is to refill your own cartridge or have it
done for you by a refiller.  When it dies, either buy another cartridge
from Dell, or give away the printer to someone more fortunate than
yourself, who can afford the ink ;-)

PS: I would not own a Lexmark inkjet printer if it wasn't given to me as
part of a purchase.  It is still in the box.
