I have an HP Pavillion 700 which has a bust systemboard. (Pavillion 720fr)
Any ideas where I might get a suitable replacement? HP say over 5 years old
=> obsolete and no longer available from stock.
According to the HP web site, the motherboard is a MSI MS-6382, made by
Microstar. To keep running the software licensed by HP, you need a compatible
replacement, which is another MSI MS-6382, for all practical purposes. Anything
else would cause some significant problems with Windows.
There are parts houses that charge horrendous prices for replacement boards. And
then there is eBay. Buy from an eBay seller with a decent feedback rating and
also a seller of computer parts. Otherwise, heed HPs advice and replace the
system... Ben Myers

Thanks Ben - that advice is spot on.
