What is drive D?

My new Dimension E520 came with 10G drive D called Recovery. Is this
just a backup? What problems might be caused by deleting it?

that is where you backup of your original OS and drivers are  stored so
if you have a problem you hit a key combination on bootup and you can
restore your system the way it is right now

Will F12 give that option?

I know restore is CTRL + F11

Well, F12 gives all the boot options, including the options to diagnose and to
restore.  At least, that's the way it is with some Dell BIOSes.   Mileage with
your BIOS may vary... Ben Myers
